Modificações ao modelo original:
Alterations to the original model:

I ended up without the turn ups because the trousers were a little shorter than I expected, in spite of having their measurements checked with one of my favorite RTW trousers (I suspect the waist is placed on a higher point on these BWOF model). I also underlined the fronts with silk organza, ending right bellow knee level and full lined the trousers with satin lining.

Tips for sewing with pinstriped fabric:

-It's very important that the pattern is cut exactly on grain so that the pinstripes are vertical to the ground (you should line the grainline with a pinstripe to make sure of this).
-To make sure that the trousers are perfectly symmetrical (the right side mirrors the left side), I cut a single layer of fabric at a time and I mark the pinstripes position at the edge of the pattern; when I cut the symmetrical piece (the pattern is turned to the other side) it’s easy to align the pinstripes with these markings and hence guaranteeing that the right and left sections are symmetrical and that the pinstripes match.
- Marking all the lines with thread (thread tracing) really pays off in this case! I made a few tutorials on this technique (my approach to it) if you care to read about it: Thread tracing Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3.

Some of the construction steps were already addressed when I was making the city shorts for my black ensemble; I'm adding links to the relevant tutorials on the city shorts so that you can relate this information to the making of the trousers. Don't forget to hit "back" to come back to this page!

Conclusion: A very stylish pair of trousers, very comfortable and elegant. The little details really make these trousers stand out! As for the turn ups I still can wear them if I'm wearing flats (I rarely do) but I still like them as they are right now (did I mention that the turn ups make your legs look smaller? You can wear them without fear if you have long legs). The creases disappeared after a few hours (I took the top pictures after wearing the trousers for a whole day at the office, where I spend most of the time sitting at my desk); you can also see that the trousers are not very wrinkled either.

I hope you all enjoyed yet another sewing journey! In the meanwhile, if you check on my updated project list you'll know that I've finished the "Pinafore" dress from the September BWOF (I don't know if I'll manage to show you this dress before leaving) and I'm currently working on the Falbala red trench! I'll be travelling on Monday and I really would like to take this trench with me so please forgive me if I'm unable to keep up with your blogs. I really don't know if I'll finish this trench on time but I'm certainly trying! I'll catch up with you guys when I get back!

Oh Tany, what a great fit and detailed work! Congratulations, these trousers are fantastic! May I ask a question: you did the organza-lining in the front down to the knees and afterwards you lined the whole trousers - so it means in the front there are three layers: cloth, silk-organza and the black lining. Did I get this right?
Thank you and greerings from berry

Berry: Thank you! Yes, you're right; the organza layer and the fashion fabric behave and are treated as a single layer (the organza is handbasted to the fronts before closing the pleats and stitching the side seams and after this the pleats are constucted as if they were on a single layer of fabric); the satin lining lines the trousers completely. I did the front underlining to prevent wrinkles and I full lined the trousers to provide warmth and confort.

Tany, these pants are beautiful and the construction details are excellent. Thanks for pointing out marking your pattern piece for cutting out the individual layers. Your pinstripes are perfectly matched, you always take such time in the details. Thanks for all the helpful tips.

I can't wait to see the dress and the trench. Good luck finishing it and have a safe trip.

Gorgeous pair of pants! I have never thought of using organza for unti-wrinkle measures for wool pants. Good idea! I think I have a pinstripe fabric somewhere ... .

Tany, they're beautiful and so well made. Question: would you like a gift of some fabric? My mom just gave me 3 pieces and it reminded me of you. There's no way I'm going to get to sewing it any time soon at all, so I wanted it to go to a good home. Drop me an email for details, if interested: julie@mascavage.com

Muitíssimo obrigada pelos vossos comentários!
Thank you all so much for your comments!

Lashell: Thank you and welcome to Couture et Tricot!

Vicki: Thanks! I do plan on dry cleaning these trousers, mainly because of the proper ironing process that can be difficult to achieve at home on lined trousers.

Isabelle We had a wonderful time together in Paris, my friend! Thank you for taking your precious time and spending it with me! I enjoyed our time together so much!

Beijinhos.

Jules I'll be delighted! I've already sent you an email! Thank you so much!

Rosa: Tu é que és bela!! Posso reenviar de volta?? ehehehe. Beijinhos para ti, Amiga!
