A quick & simple knitting project – Um projeto de tricô simples e rápido

Hello dear reader and friends, I’m just getting back "in business" after a long absence,… Life hasn't been easy on me lately and unfortunately I haven’t been able to update this blog or even sew/kit as much as I’d wish. Today I have a finished knitting project to share, a quick and easy garter stitch beanie. I used three skeins of DMC Nordic Spirit Ottawa yarn in violet and size 13 circular needles (10mm) to knit a garter stitch rectangle. I casted on 42 stitches and knitted for 11 ½ inches then bind off leaving a long yarn trail. I threaded the long train into a blunt needle and then stitched in-and-out along bound off edge. I pulled to gather top of the hat, gave it a few more stitches to secure it well and sewed the seam, shifting sides middle way (because of the turn-up).

Olá queridos leitores e amigos, estou de volta após uma longa ausência… A vida não tem sido fácil por estes lados e infelizmente não tenho podido atualizar o blogue, nem sequer costurar/tricotar tanto quanto desejaria. Hoje tenho um projeto de tricô muito fácil e rápido para partilhar, um gorro muito simples e rápido de fazer todo tricotado em liga com agulhas e lã grossas. Usei três novelos de lã Nordic Spirit Ottawa da DMC, cor violeta, e agulhas circulares de 10mm para tricotar um retângulo em liga. Montei 42 malhas e tricotei por 29cm, rematando todos os pontos e deixando uma ponta de fio comprido. Depois de enfiar a ponta de fio numa agulha romba para lã grossa, enfiei-a através dos pontos rematados e puxei, franzindo o topo do gorro. Dei alguns pontos para segurar bem e continuei a coser a costura central do gorro, tendo o cuidado de trocar o avesso pelo direito a meio da costura porque o gorro tem uma dobra para fora.

Using 5-6 7 more skeins I’m also knitting a matching scarf: cast on 25 stitches and knit in garter stitch until getting the desired length, then bind off (note: I used size 17 needles to knit the scarf). I really loved the end result with this chunky yarn and the vibrant violet color and perhaps I'll knit another set like this using a different color. It’s the ideal project to keep the hands busy while watching your favorite TV series in the evening (I’m able to knit without looking down to my hands).

Usando mais 5 a 6 7 novelos estou a fazer um cachecol a condizer: montei 25 malhas em agulhas de 12mm e estou a tricotar em liga até atingir o comprimento desejado. Adoro o resultado desta lã grossa e a cor violeta, e não ponho de parte fazer um conjunto igual noutra cor. Este género de projetos são ideais para manter as mãos ocupadas enquanto se vê televisão à noite (uma vez que consigo tricotar sem ter de olhar para o trabalho em mãos).

In spite of the simplicity of the project, ideal for the beginner knitter, I found the result to be quite stylish and I can’t wait to wear this set (keep an eye out on my wardrobe blog for an upcoming outfit featuring the beanie and the scarf). I also got this beautiful necklace as a gift and its color complements my knitting set beautifully, don't you think?

Apesar da simplicidade do projeto, ideal para as principiantes, achei o resultado muito bonito e com muito estilo, mal posso esperar para usar o conjunto (fiquem atentas ao meu blogue de estilo pessoal!). 2012#7 - Baby blanket and pregnancy status - Mantinha de bebé e notícias da gravidez

Terminei esta mantinha há duas semanas, mas só agora arranjei um tempinho para a mostrar; O modelo original chama-se Ezra’s blanket e encontra-se disponível gratuitamente no Ravelry (clicar aqui) e no blogue da autora (clicar aqui). É tricotado atravessado, ie, começa-se num canto e vai-se aumentando até atingir a diagonal com o tamanho pretendido, e depois começa-se a diminuir até terminar no utro canto. Basicamente os pontos utilizados são o ponto de arroz e o ponto de arroz duplo. As explicações estão em Inglês. Para lhe dar um toque especial acrescentei uma fita de veludo vermelha ao longo do ajurado dos bordos:

Esta mantinha agora está a embrulhar a roupinha do 1º dia do meu filho, a chamada trouxinha da maternidade:

Quanto a minha gravidez, o nascimento já tem data marcada pois a minha obstetra aconselhou-me uma cesariana, uma vez que o meu menino percentil 90 não virou; encontra-se sentado com o rabiosque enfiado na minha pélvis, o que tornaria o parto baixo muito arriscado. O grande dia é no 31 de Julho, a não ser que aconteça alguma coisa antes! Só faltam pouco mais de duas semanas!

I finished this baby blanket two weeks ago and only now I found the time to post about it. I found the pattern on Ravelry (click here), it’s called Ezra’s blanket and it’s available for free both on Ravelry and the author’s blog (click here). The stitches used are basically seed stitch and moss stitch. I added a red velvet ribbon to the edges, which turned out pretty awesome in my opinion.

This blanket is used to wrap baby’s first clothes after delivery and it will provide a confy and warm nest for the baby right after delivery:

As to the latest pregnancy news, the delivery is now scheduled; my obstetrician strongly advised a planned c-section because baby (which has an estimated percentile of 90, btw! Meaning really big baby) didn’t turn and is confortably sit with his but down in my pelvis! A vaginal delivery would be very risky and a c-section is the safest option in this case. So if everything goes well, my son will be born on the 31st of July! There’s only two and a half weeks left until the big day!

2012#6 - Baby polo sweater

Viva queridas leitoras e leitores, há algum tempo que não passo por aqui (é por falta de tempo e não por falta de vontade). Com o progredir da gravidez aumentam as consultas, exames, aulas de preparação para o parto, preparativos, etc. e além do mais continuo a trabalhar. Sei que isto não é nada, depois do bebé nascer é que vão ser elas…
Esta sweater foi publicada na revista Phildar Layette nº 449 (edição francesa) que poderão encontrar facilmente no PicasaWeb, se estiverem interessadas.

Modifiquei alguns aspectos do modelo, eliminando os cordões de atar e substituindo-os por botões. Também coloquei um botão extra na parte de trás do colarinho, para o manter dobrado no lugar.

O fio que usei é o REGATA da Rosarios4 (100% algodão, 100g = 275m).

Conclusão: Gostei bastante e tenciono aproveitar as instruções para fazer pelo menos outro polo do mesmo género! Beijinhos e obrigada por passarem aqui!

Hi there, dear friends and readers! It has been a while since my last post (due mainly to lack of time). As my pregnancy progresses to near the due date, there are more doctor appointments, more exams, prenatal classes, etc. and adding to all that I’m still working full time (and I will continue to work while I feel up to it, keeping busy is better for me). And this is nothing compared to what is said to be coming after giving birth…
This sweater model was published in Phildar Layette nº 449 (in French), which can be found on PicasaWeb, if you’re interested.

I altered a few details: went for small colored buttons instead of the strings and also added a button on the back of the collar to keep it in place.

The yarn used was once again from ROSARIOS4 (a Portuguese brand); it’s called REGATA, a nice 100% cotton yarn (3.50 oz = 299 yds) which knits beautifully.

Conclusion: I’m very happy with the end result and plan on using this model again, at least once more.

2012#5 - Teddy bear jacket – Casaco dos ursinhos

Viva queridos leitores e amigos, hoje tenho mais um trabalho de tricô para mostrar:

O modelo foi o mesmo da sweater pomba branca, só que adaptado para casaco (basicamente eliminam-se as aberturas nas costuras das mangas, divide-se a frente em duas e acrescenta-se a carcela com botões). Os motivos bordados foram inspirados num outro modelo de casaco, que foi publicado na mesma revista, só que para um tamanho maior. Utilizei linha Bravo (Schachenmayr SMC) 100% acrílico e agulhas de 3mm. Podem ver mais alguns detalhes a seguir:



Quanto à gravidez, continuo a sentir-me bem, embora cada vez mais pesada, mas faltam menos de dois meses para o bebé nascer e estou bastante animada! Fiquem bem e obrigada!

Hi dear readers and friends, today I have yet another baby knitting project to show:

This jacket is actually na adaptation from the Dove sweater model, just by splitting the front in two, eliminating the raglan buttoned slits and adding the central placket. The embroidered motiff was inspired in another model from the same magazine. I used Bravo yarn (Schachenmayr SMC) 100% acrylic and US3 needles (3mm). Here are a few more details:



My pregnancy continues to develop nicely and without any issues so far; I feel heavy now but my mood is great and there’s less than two months left ‘till the finishing line now.

2012#4 – White dove sweater – Sweater pomba branca

Aqui têm o 4º projecto de tricô que completei para o meu pequerrucho, uma blusinha raglan em verde água com uma pomba bordada em branco e uns botões amorosos em forma de coração. O modelo é da revista Phildar nº768 (edição Francesa) modelo 13 e o gráfico da pomba tirei-o de um outro livro Francês, Layette La Droguerie. Podem ver o bordado em detalhe e o gráfico a seguir:

O fio usado foi Rosários 4 Carícia (2 novelos de 50g) 85% acrílico 15% poliamida com tratamento especial de Aloe Vera, um fio muito suave especialmente indicado para roupa de bebé. Usei agulhas de 3mm e observei que a amostra ficava um pouco grande; tive então de redimensionar o modelo para obter um tamanho de 3 meses, e o resultado final foi o que esperava. Espero que gostem! Here’s the fourth knitting project for my little one, a seafoam green sweater with raglan sleeves featuring an embroidered (duplicate stitch) white dove and six lovely heart shaped buttons. The model is from Phildar #768 (French edition); I found the dove graphic in another French book, “Layette La Droguerie”. Here’s a close-up of the white dove:

The yarn used was once again the Portuguese brand Rosarios4 Caricia (two 50g skeins), 85% acrylic, 15% polyamid with Aloe treatment for extra smoothness. I used US3 needles and noted the gauge was a little big so I adapted the instructions accordingly to obtain na aproximate size for 3 months. The end result was exactly what I expected. Hope you like it as much as I do!

PS - I'm still behind on replying to the many emails I've beem receiving, I'm so sorry for that!

2012#3 – Wooded teddy bear sweater – Sweater ursinho com capucho

Mais uma peça para o meu pequenino, fiz esta sweater já com tamanho 6 meses para lhe vestir no próximo Inverno. Usei um fio da Rosários4 cor azul jeans e agulhas de 5mm. Tirei o modelo da pré-visualização do livro Special Knits da Debbie Bliss, disponível no Google Books (clicar aqui para aceder à pré-visualização, onde encontrarão excertos do livro, de entre os quais as instruções para este modelo – Hooded sweater – que estão completas).

Cosi na frente uma aplicação bordada em forma de ursinho:

Conclusão: Um modelo fácil e rápido de fazer que recomendo vivamente!

Esta semana estou a contar receber a mobília de quarto, e a minha próxima tarefa será lavar, passar e arrumar toda a roupinha de bebé, além de decorar o quartinho! Here’s knitting project for my little one; I knitted this sweater in size 6 months so he will be able to wear it during next winter. Once again I used Rosarios 4 yarn (I don’t have the reference with me right now) in blue jeans color and US 8 needles (5mm). I found this model in the Google Books preview of the Special knits book, by Debbie Bliss (click here for the partial preview and scroll down until you find the wooded sweater, the full instructions are shown)

I added a teddy bear appliqué on the front, here’s a close-up view:

Conclusion: A very quick and easy Project, I highly recommend it!

This week I count on receiving the nursery furniture and my next big tasks will be washing/ironing all the baby clothes, store them in place and start decorating the nursery room. 2012#2 – Baby sailor coat – Casaco de bebé marinheiro

Um casaquinho comprido de bebé, todo tricotado em ponto mousse (jarreteira), com trespasse na frente e capucho. O modelo original foi publicado na revista Phildar 768 (edição Francesa), modelo 15:

Para lhe dar um pouco de graça escolhi uns botões estilo marinheiro e um emblema da Guarda Costeira!

Foi todo trabalhado com agulhas de 4,5mm e lã Rosarios4 Bambino em branco. Gastei cerca de 3 novelos de 100g.

PS – Como algumas amigas aconselharam, vou remover as etiquetas dos casaquinhos (já as tinha retirado de toda a roupa interior e baby-grows que comprei). Pensei que por serem roupas de usar por cima de outras não houvesse problema, mas mais vale prevenir, certo?

This baby coat is knitted in garter stitch and has a cross over front and a hood. The original model was published in Phildar 768 magazine (French edition), model 15:

I customized it with sailor buttons and a coastguard embroidered appliqué:

This coat was entirely knitted in garter stitch using US 7 needles (4,5mm) and a Portuguese brand of yarn, Rosarios4 Bambino; I used three 3.5 oz skeins for this baby coat.

PS – Some of my friends/readers mentioned that I should remove the label from the orange coat. I’ll remove my labels from the baby coats that I’ve made (I’ve done that already for all the baby underwear and other clothes that I’ve bought, but since the knitted jackets/coats are outwear I thought it would be ok to keep the labels on. However, I better be safe than sorry and I’ll remove all the labels).
