ETA: You can see me wearing the jacket on Tany et La Mode (here).

Editado para acrescentar: Podem ver-me a usar a jaqueta no Tany et La Mode (aqui)

EN: This pattern takes the base of the traditional pea coat jacket (according to Wikipedia, a pea coat jacket is an outer coat inspired in the coats traditionally worn by sailors, generally of navy-colored heavy wool, short in length, with broad lapels, double-breasted fronts, large buttons and vertical or slash pockets) and adds a little twist by transforming it into an asymmetric jacket with two length options and darted sleeve caps. I really loved the sample short jacket made with faux fur sherpa and sequined fabric on the left front so I did my best to emulate it.

EN: For my version I used faux fur sherpa ordered from tecidos.com.pt (here) and embossed jacquard fabric bought from a local home decoration fabric store. The combination of these two fabrics turned out great, in my opinion, and the sherpa wasn't as hard to sew as I expected (read the previous article here, where I also demonstrate how I did the vertical wide welt pocket). Be aware that the pattern instructions don't mention using sherpa or two different fabrics, it's just a personal styling choice. This pea-coat can be made out of more traditional fabrics and, with minimal pattern adaptation, it can be  sewn either as a simple button-down or traditional double-breasted front.
---
EN: Watching the video and the photos on the pattern webpage I realized the sample jacket doesn't have a back tab, but since the back line-drawing on the pattern case shows this tab and the pattern includes the piece for cutting it, I decided to add it; I also added raglan shoulder pads which are not mentioned in the instructions (I like  the structured shoulders effect better).
---
EN: One of my fears about sewing sherpa was the buttonholes; I wasn't sure I could machine-stitch them with the automatic buttonhole option, but after testing on a sample I realized it could be done; what I did was, instead of pulling the stop lever all the way down as usual, I pulled it down just enough to touch the buttonholer presser feet; if it was all the way down there would be the chance of the bulky sherpa interfering with its job.
---
EN: The next photos show the facings and the under-collar, cut from the embossed jacquard fabric:
---
PT: as próximas fotos mostram as vistas e a gola inferior, cortados no tecido jacquard:

EN: Here are the two corners of the facing/hem/Lining corner intersection, sewn the industrial way (all by machine): the left front (facing and left front are cut from the jacquard) and the right front (only the facing is cut from the jacquard, the right front is cut from the sherpa faux fur):
---

EN: The lining was bagged (applied entirely by machine), leaving a small section open along the lining side panel seam, so the jacket could be turned to the right side; this 7" (give or take) section is hand-stitched or machine stitched once the jacket is finished. Before turning the jacket right side out I hand-tacked the facings and the hems (both the sleeve and jacket hems). The lining should also be tacked to the jacket on the bottom of the armholes, to keep it from shifting and pulling the sleeves.
---
CONCLUSION: What I like the most with DP Studio patterns is their aesthetic and the fact that they force you to think through and push your boundaries and knowledge to be able to interpret them. I also love the fact that the designer encourage different interpretations of the pattern (in this case I made a copy of the original, but that's because I really liked it). The patterns are usually aimed at the more experienced, and the instructions may seem cryptic to some, specially to those who are accustomed to have all the steps laid out exactly and with illustrations. Once you get used to the instructions an the pattern iconography, it gets a lot easier.
This pattern in particular is well drafted and all the pieces come together perfectly; the pattern comes with 3/8" (not 5/8"!!) seam allowances included and usually 1 1/2" hem allowances, notched on the pattern; the pocket placement area is a rectangle, which may be confusing to some; the rectangle shows the stitching lines (the cutting line is not represented between the two 3/4" apart stitching lines). The pocket has a longer length on longer version of the jacket, so keep this in mind.
Wrapping it all up, I really enjoyed sewing this jacket and loved he final result even more. I highly recommend the pattern!

Recomendo vivamente o molde!
