First of all I must say that the coat mentioned in my last post is an original by Orwell, a German designer. As I said before, I couldn't get my hands on the original pattern, so I decided to use a similar pattern, modify it and use it to make this coat. The first step will be choosing such pattern. The most important detail to keep in mind is the fact that this coat is made with no side seams, instead it features side panels. Every other detail on the Orwell coat is easily reproduced using a simple coat pattern with side panels.
Observem o esquema do casaco:
Take a look at the line drawing:
This coat has side panels!! It has a small horizontal dart on the chest, but with some simple pattern manipulation it can be transferred to a vertical seam (the topstitched seam on the Orwell coat – please observe line drawing in previous post). Collar and lapels are easily rounded… The neckline has a slightly different design: it isn’t as deep as on the Orwell coat, but I prefer it this way; there are patch pockets but altering to single welt pockets with flaps is an easy task to do. The rest of the details are easy to mimic: the belted cuffs, the waist belt… One thing about the shoulder detail though: since I have athletic shoulders, I don’t want to enhance them, so I’ll skip the funny shoulder design.
