Top Burda Fev2008 mod119: o tecido é que manda! - BWOF Feb2008 model 119: the fabric calls the shots

Português
English (uncheck the other box and check this one)

A seguir alguns detalhes:

A gola:

A bainha:

I made this top from the gorgeous burn-out knit that I received from Els as a gift, some time ago; this fabric has a very beautiful burnout flower pattern, with black tracings and a few discrete gold accents (hard to see in the pictures).

The original model can be seen here (Burdamode website).

This fabric is very see-through so I decided to underline the front using a very soft and thin knit fabric (special purpose knit lining) that I received from Paco.

As you have certainly noticed, the collar is a little different; I had to modify the original model because there wasn’t enough fabric for the wide bias cut collar. SO I’ve settled with a side tied-on collar, constructing it using the same process as for the purple blouse:

Apart from these two details (front underlining and collar) I followed the instructions. Next you can see some details:

The collar:

The hem:

The bias bound armholes:

I used black thread for the stitching. It just seemed right together with the black outlined pattern on the fabric.

Conclusion: Another easy model, where once more the fabric takes most of the credit. I really like this top and I’m still wanting to make the original version of the collar, maybe using this similar knit fabric that I found a couple of days ago:

In the meanwhile, if you want to see this made according to the original collar, check out Adrienne’s and Nancy’s versions. Nancy also put up a very nice photo tutorial on this top (click here)

See you soon!

This is so interesting to find this post. My 16yr old DD is working on this very same top at present. She is using powerdry fabric. She had a hard time figuring out the Burda instructions, typical Burda, so we took it 1 step at a time. Today, she'll finish up the armscyes and hem. She will be thrilled when I show her your post this afternoon.
BTW, love yours completely.

Very nice, and a smart modification. That pattern does take more fabric than you'd think. The black knit will make a terrific top, too.

Wow! The black fabric will be an awesome top and the red one turned into a beautiful one... I had no idea there was a special purpose knit lining! Great!

Tany,

Gorgeous blouse, the burnout definitely makes the blouse standout.

Thank you all!
Obrigada a todas!
Gracias a todos!

I'd like to give a big welcoming hug to the new commenters: Sue, Tit'zip and H.!

H.: Powerdry sounds great for this top!

Paco Gracias!!

Beijinhos!

Beautiful creation! The knits are wonderful and you are very skilled, as always with the underlining.
I have finished sewing the same top and will have to ask Marius to take pictures and post. Also I did not have enough fabric for the color and had to cut it straight, and half the width...I am pleased with the results, although the armholes are a little high for me...Will be linking to your post!

E não precisas de agradecer! Mereces todo o apoio e admiração deste mundo.

This is really a great top. I also thought to make it for myself - would be a liberty like or light cotton fabric. In your article on the white Simplicity jacket you were speaking about a SWAp thing, I would like to try this experience, but do not know where to start from. Do you have links on that? Thanks so much, and for the comment on my red cotton blouse.

Els: Thank you!

Cafe Couture Thank you! About your question: I've never entered a SWAP (Sewing With A Plan) contest; if you know www.patternreview.com, I believe they are featuring a mini-SWAP right now, which I believe would be a good start!
