I feel each sewing project as an unique experience. It starts as an idea, it takes shape when I trace the pattern, then I choose the fabric, the linen, the buttons,... The idea matures, takes shape and becomes close to reality each step of the way.
Antes de começar a cortar o tecido gosto de ter todo o materal que julgo necessário para o projecto. Na figura podem ver o tecido preto (um tecido bastante firme à base de lã, tipo feltro, sem textura e com um ligeiro lustro; está debaixo dos outros tecidos);
Before cutting I like to stash all the notions needed. On the picture above you can see the black fabric (it's a wool blended fabric, firm and untexturized);
por cima e à direita temos o forro (escolhi cetim preto) e à esquerda do forro estão três tipos de entretela termocolante (antes de escolher as que quero, faço experiências com os farrapos que sobram do corte;
on top of the fabric and to the right there's the lining fabric (a fine black satin), to the left there are three different kinds of fusible interfacing (I'll try them out on fabric scraps before choosing which of them are suitable for this fabric);
podem ver também os chumaços (médios e forrados), as cabeças das mangas (as duas tiras brancas de material de acolchoar), fitas de algodão finas, linhas de coser, casear (torçal) e também linha de casear branca para fazer os pespontos;
See also the shoulder pads (medium size and lined), the sleeve heads, thin cotton tape, regular sewing thread, white and black thread (the kind used to make buttonholes by hand - the white is for topstitching);
There are also the buttons (four of them are smaller and will be placed on the pockets), white bias tape and some white cable cord; I'll be using both to make piping.
If you are not comfortable with the pattern or if you have fitting issues, you should also get some muslin (toile) fabric to test and fit the coat before you cut the actual garment fabric; I won't be doing this here because I've been sewing Burda's patterns for years now and I don't have any major fit issues to deal with (lucky me). Besides, I'm not dealing with a fitted jacket, so all the necessary personal adjustments can be made after I cut the fabric. When it came to a certain Patrones pattern some while ago, then I didn't know if the pattern would fit me well so I had to test it first using a muslin (toile).
Até breve! See you soon!

Continua!

Tany, you're blogging! Very cool. I love it & am putting your site on my blogroll. I wish I'd found it sooner, but I haven't even been to my own blog in days. I'm still detoxing from the distressing mess that was Christmas (sigh), but I'm starting to feel the renewed urge to make things again. All sorts of things too. Hooray!

I adore that Orwell coat, by the way. Hmm.

Oh LMH, I'm so honored! I was just waiting for your next post to tell you! Thank you for stopping by and I hope you enjoy reading my blog!! I feel very insecure about my English writing though… I know I do/will make mistakes; it’s not my native language… But I’ll try hard to be clear and concise. You inspired me on this endeavour and you’ll continue to do so. I miss your wonderful writing!!
