Agradecimentos e ponto de situação – Many thanks and status report

O casamento correu maravilhosamente bem!

After taking a short skiing vacation (at Formigal, the Pyrenees, Spain), it’s time for thanking you all for the very nice comments on my “The Devil Wears Prada” suit!
More than a year has passed since I started blogging and getting a nice comment still makes my heart sing! The fact that now I know so many people around the world with whom I share my passion, some becoming great friends (a friendship more strong and connected than some of my everyday “normal life” friends) fills my existence with great happiness. Here I try to answer all the questions addressed to me and to welcome all the new commenters (I chose to do this in the same comment area) and to return your attention and caring, both on comments and emails. Please forgive me if sometimes I do it too late or if I fail to do it under some circumstances. Time is becoming too short for everything I have in hand and I still have unanswered emails, a long list of blog entries to read (my count, after just catching up with a few blogs: 200 unread entries!) and a few gifts to complete. Adding to all this, my professional life is going through some changes and a family member is in the hospital after having a stroke. All this takes much of my free time and I hope you all understand why my posting activity may get sparse.
Talking about friends, I want to thank Monica for sending me this wonderful gift, a pincushion that she made herself! I love it and she knows that I’ll put it to good use!
At least Summerset, Paco, Mary Beth, Ana Carina, Carolyn and Sigrid (I’m still catching up on my blogroll so I can’t be sure if I had more nominations) nominated Couture et Tricot for the Excellent Blog Award. I accept this nomination with great emotion and I dedicate it to all the persons who take their time to share what they do and their lives, help each other and inspire who ever step on their little corner in the cyberspace! I have too many favorite blogs to nominate just ten of them and after all, you who receive my frequent visits and comments, you who are my soul mates and very dear friends, you know perfectly well who you are! A big cheer to this worldwide friend/blogging community!
I would also like to thank Rosa from Corteygrif for giving me the prize “Not bad at all blog” (direct translation from Portuguese) some time ago!
The wedding was BEAUTIFUL! It took place in the mythical Monastery of Alcobaca where Pedro and Ines rest in peace for eternity. You can find out about their love story by clicking here. The romanticism inherent to the place elevated this wedding to an overwhelming and unforgettable experience. After the religious ceremony at the monastery’s church, the wedding party took place in one of the monastery’s big rooms (I believe it was originally the monastery’s refectory), adorned with red and white roses and big stone statues! I wish the newly wedded all the happiness in the world!
As for my suit, I believe it was a success and I received lots of compliments, including the mother of the groom who came to our table to meet and congratulate me for my outfit! (Next see a picture – took with my cell phone - of the room where the party took place)
And now for a status report on my fibre related activities! I wasn’t idle during my short vacations! I took Isabelle’s Fetching mittens and my Phildar crochet dress with me and was able to make good progress on both!
About the Phildar dress, a friend brought to my attention that the instructions (in French) are now available for download at the French Phildar website after filling a registration form and logging in. You can find them at www.phildar.fr by clicking on “Modèles Presse” and then the Prima magazine nº285.

On the sewing front, I hope to begin my Spring season sewing as soon as I can. I’m putting together a Spring/Summer project list, as I did for last season. As the previous list, it will be updated as I go and I reserve the right to change my mind on the projects listed. If you visit the Fall/Winter list (there's also a link on the sidebar), you’ll see that it contains links to my completed garments and also you’ll find that I kept there the projects I wasn’t able to finish yet. I’m saving them for next winter (unless I change my mind about them) or perhaps I’ll tackle a winter project in between summer projects just for the fun of it (I do prefer sewing for winter).
By the way, take a look at what I found while I was on vacation:

Tany,

Gosto imenso do ponto fantasia no terminar do vestido!

Beijinhos

Tany - I have several Patrones magazines. I just made a dress from one of the patrones I had. I was wondering if you could give me an english word that would match "tapeta" in spanish. My daughter and I have researched this one word and cannot find a translation anywhere. All I get from the dictionaries and online translators is that the word does not exist, yet Patrones uses it all the time. I have issue number 264 in front of me and they even have a subtitle on the last page that says "tapeta polo". We are determined to figure this out. My daughter says that I am learning spanish through using this magazine. At least I am learning the words I want instead of things like where is the library - right?

Tany,

Obrigada a todas pelas vossas palavras e apoio!
Thank you all for your kind words and support!

Linda: I believe "tapeta" can mean several words in English, according to the context where it's being used: for ex., "bolsillo con tapeta" means "pocket with a flap" and in this context, "tapeta" means flap. I also found this word related to the fly front zipper application on pants so I'm guessing it can also mean the fly facing add-on. When it's used as "tapeta polo" it means the placket bands on a polo collar. I'm not an expert in Spanish language and I often use the online translators too; for the words I can't translate I kind of figure out their meaning by associating them to the context within the instructions, this was the case for this word. Spanish is similar to Portuguese and I am able to figure out most things just by associating the words used as I would use them in Portuguese. Both are latin languages and use a similar sentence construction system, which is very different from the English (that's why you get the crazy translations sometimes, this is so because the online translators don't check the context and most of the times they make a direct translation word by word).

Linda: Paco made a few relevant remarks concerning the Spanish word “tapeta”; this word is originated by the word “tapar”, which means “to cover” or “to hide” so a “tapeta” is always something that covers or hides, for example, covering the pocket opening (pocket flap) or covering the wrong side of the fly front zipper. It is also used when dealing with concealed double button closures.

Tany - Thank you very much for your help. And to Paco - Muchas gracias. I just love how sewing can be so "global" as they say. I am learning two different languages while sewing. And it would not not be easy if it weren't for the kind help I receive from people like you. My DD has taken three years of Spanish language. She is the one that is helping me when I type in Spanish.

Great to see you back. Glad you could have a little vacation. Got the impression you really needed it. And wow to the picture of the church, great place to have a wedding. And your crotchet projects look so nice, and the Patrones look good. Agree with you that winter sewing is nicer. (lucky for me Dutch summers are usually short). Best wishes for your relative too.

Tany,
