EN: The pattern used for making this jacket is from BurdaStyle magazine October 2016, model 118: short double-breasted jacket with XL collar and lapels, two rows of large contrasting buttons and tied waistband with D-rings. One of my sewing friends described it as a wonderful cross between a double breasted jacket and a battle jacket; I couldn't agree more with her. The pattern includes a 36-44 range of sizes and calls for about 2 meters of woolen fabric (give or take depending on size), with 1.5 meters width, 1.15 to 1.25 lining fabric (1.4m width), interfacings according to fabric's properties, 4 large buttons, a smaller flat button to fasten inside, two large metal snaps to hold the waistband and a couple of 5 cm (2") D-rings. NOTE: I used 4 cm D-rings and I cut the waistband pieces narrower accordingly. Other than the waistband width, I did no alterations to size 40.

EN: This pattern comes with an illustrated course, which makes it easier to understand when compared with regular BurdaStyle instructions, yet it is rated  "Advanced" for a reason. I also found a mistake in the instructions (at least in my Portuguese issue of BurdaStyle): The front wasitband piece should be cut twice and not once as indicated in the instructions (there's a right front waistband which extends the right front with the D-rings and the left waistband piece should be cut smaller to end at the front edge when finished; there's a tie band sewn together with the waistband vertical seam joining left front and back waistbands).
---
EN: My fabric is a medium weight blend with some stretch (I am not sure of its composition), easy to sew but harder to press without leaving impressions (used a teflon cover on the iron and exerted the minimum amount of pressure to get it well pressed). I made interfacing tests and decided to go with my usual speed tailoring approach instead of the magazine's suggested reinforcements (I used weft insertion for the entire fronts, under-collar/collar stand, back yoke, upper part of side panels, sleeve hem allowances and public sides of the waistband; used thin knit fusible for the facings and upper-collar; taped armholes, neckline, roll-line and front edges including lapel edges). I also under-stitched the under-collar, lapels and front edges. Once the collar was finished I was sure I had made the right choice for this particular fabric. I also used the weft insertion interfacing to reinforce the sleeve-caps, adding sleeve-heads and tailoring shoulder-pads. The sleeves were inserted without any puckers.
---
EN: The back of the jacket is nicely shaped; the tailoring shoulder pads were not the thinner type; this jacket has the structure of a coat (there's also a coat version using this pattern, which I intend to make also in the near future ;) ).
---
EN: I opted for a contrasting collar and used the remnants of the midnight-blue fabric for the upper collar, inner collar stand and back facings, while the remaining jacket pieces (under-collar and collar-stand included) were cut from the same fabric, but in burnt orange color. The collar sewing method is worth consulting in the magazine's illustrated instructions, because it's unusual.
---
EN: I used the same buttons of the vest but in larger size:
---
EN: The lining is navy-blue and I really love the color contrast with the jacket; I could have covered the snaps which hold the waistband in place (see my tutorial here, just scroll down to find the article in English), but since there are the D-rings in metallic, I figured they would look fine without the lining cover as well:
---
EN: I am not finished with this set of coordinates yet! There was enough burnt orange fabric left for a skirt and perhaps I will make a mandarin collar shirt with the striped fabric as well! Stay tuned!
---
