PT Sumário: Depois de terminar as calças do fato, passei de imediato à confeção do blazer. Neste artigo vou focar-me nas alterações preliminares que fiz ao molde, como cortei o tecido, os reforços e as marcações, e também mostrar detalhes dos bolsos já prontos. Continuem a ler o artigo completo.

EN: I knew from the first time I made this blazer, that the shoulders were high and large (a fact that can be spotted just by looking at the model photo and line-drawing in the magazine). Broad shoulders were trendy back then and judging from the last runway reports, they are making a come back,... It's just me who don't feel quite ready for them yet :). The remaining aspects of the fit were OK: the waistline is well defined and the blazer has a long line, with wide lapels. For estimating how much I would have to lower and shorten the shoulders I decided to tissue fit instead of constructing an entire muslin; then, if the fit was off, I would make the muslin to try more drastic alterations. It helps if you know your body well, know the patterns and know in advance your fitting peculiarities in relation to the patterns. Burda patterns are well drafted and fit me well; other than the shoulder line, I wasn't expecting any problems with size 40. I pinned the paper pattern (front, back and side panels) along all vertical seams and shoulder seams and placed it on the dummy (which is padded to my measurements); I was able to quickly determine how much I would have to take the shoulders in:

PT: Por já ter feito este fato nos anos 90, sabia de antemão que os ombros são largos e altos (só de ver a foto do modelo e o croquis também dá para tirar esta mesma conclusão). Os ombros muito marcados estavam na moda na altura e agora até parece que estãoi a voltar,... No entanto sou eu que ainda não me sinto pronta para esta tendência :). As restantes caracteristicas da peça estão bem para mim: a cintura está bem demarcada e o blazer é comprido, com lapelas largas. Para estimar o ajuste necessário nos ombros, decidi provar diretamente o molde de papel, em vez de confecionar um modelo de prova; se no papel a forma do blazer estivesse muito fora do meu gosto, aí sim faria um modelo de prova para poder registar alterações mais complicadas. Para ter este grau de confiança ajuda conhecermos bem o nosso corpo e os moldes que vamos usar; Os moldes da Burda estão bem construídos e assentam-me bem, por isso não estava à espera de mais alterações além dos ombros no tamanho 40. Fixei as partes do molde (frentes, costas e paineis laterais) umas às outras com alfinetes e coloquei os moldes no meu manequim (que está customizado com as minhas medidas). Determinar quanto deveria encurtar e baixar os ombros foi muito fácil e rápido:

EN: I shaved off 3/8" from the shoulder width and lowered the shoulder slope for 1/4". I didn't want to be too drastic and knew that I could adjust it further after the blazer was cut on fabric and hand-basted together, with the shoulder pads pinned in place. The very important aspect to have into consideration is the truing of the pattern for a smooth line at the shoulder point, without any angles sticking in or out. I left the armhole shape under the arm untouched, the adjustment only impacted the shoulder line and width.

PT: Retirei 1cm à largura dos ombros e baixei-os 0.5mm. Não quis ser demasiado drástica como ponto de partida e sabia que depois do blazer cortado em tecido e alinhavado, com os chumaços alfinetados no sítio, podia ver se era preciso ajustar um pouco mais. O aspeto mais importante é garantir que quando se junta o molde plano nos ombros a linha da cava é suave, sem formar bicos ou ângulos na extremidade do ombro. A forma da cava ficou exatamente na mesma, e o único impacto desta alteração foi no ombro.

EN: I used a single layer cutting layout, same as with the pants; first I cut one side of the fabric and then placed the cut pieces facing down on the other side, following a symmetrical layout, aligning the stripes on the edges of the fabric. I also changed the pattern for the under collar, so I could cut it on the bias with a center back seam; the upper collar and the facings were altered to accommodate the turn of the cloth. After the fabric was cut, I adapted the pattern for the lining.

PT: Tal como fiz com o corte das calças, cortei o tecido sem estar dobrado; depois peguei nas peças cortadas e coloquei-as simetricamente viradas para baixo sobre o outro lado do tecido, alinhando as riscas antes de cortar. Também alterei o molde da parte inferior da gola, dividindo-a ao meio para cortar em viés com uma costura central, em vez de no correr do fio. A parte superior da gola foi cortada inteira no correr do fio, e ligeiramente alargada para acomodar a dobra da gola. As vistas da frente também foram ligeiramente aumentadas para acomodar a dobra das lapelas. Depois do tecido cortado, os moldes foram adaptados para cortar o forro do blazer.

EN: First I hand-basted the fabric pieces together as I had done with the paper patterns and tried them on on the dummy, and on myself; when it was clear that I needed no further alterations I reinforced the fabric pieces with fusible interfacing where they needed additional reinforcement, as I usually do. The fronts and side fronts were fully interfaced but this time I also added a chest shield, cutting horsehair canvas on the bias without the seam allowances and placing a shorter piece of thin fusible on top with the seam allowances; the shield is fused to the front piece, yet it remains floating this way. Also note the stay tape along the collar edges and roll line (there's also stay tape along the front/lapel edges).

PT: Depois do blazer cortado alinhavei as peças do torso como fiz com o molde, e coloquei-as no manequim, com os chumaços por baixo; depois provei-as diretamente no meu corpo; quando se tornou claro para mim que não era necessário alterar mais nada, descosi os alinhavos e prossegui aplicando todos os reforços usuais com entretela, só que desta vez decidi acrescentar um reforço no ombro da frente. Este reforço é feito cortando entretela de crina em viés, sem margens de costura; depois coloca-se um troço de entretela de colar a ferro fina por cima, mais curta, mas com as margens incluídas. Cola-se tudo a ferro e o escudo fica fixo no ombro e cava, mas flutuante. Notem que também não dispenso a utilização de fitas de reforço ao longo do decote e linha de dobra das lapelas (também apliquei nas orlas da frente e das lapelas), embora as frentes e os paineis laterais da frente já tenham sido completamente reforçados com entretela de colar a ferro.

EN: After applying all the reinforcements needed, the front side panels were machine stitched to the fronts along the princess lines and the flap pockets were constructed. If you cut the pattern and all the fabric pieces accurately, the pockets are made quite easily. Today I'm showing just the details of the finished pocket:
