EN: The jacket: It wears and feels beautifully. It's a very simple design: fully lined, semi-fitted with center front exposed metallic zipper closure, a shirt collar, front and back yokes and princess seams. The sleeves are basic two-piece without vent. They are very well drafted without too much sleeve cap ease so they set it very well even with this difficult fabric.

PT: A jaqueta: É super confortável e veste muito bem. Tem um design muito simples: é completamente forrada, tem um fecho metálico exposto na frente, uma gola camiseira, encaixes de ombro e costuras princesa na frente e costas. As mangas são estilo alfaiate (duas folhas) mas sem abertura de abotoar. O molde das mangas está excelente pois as cabeça da manga não tem excesso de folga, o que as torna fáceis de aplicar na cava mesmo neste tecido.

EN: Burda sleeves are one of the few where I don't have to adjust the length and/or the width of the sleeve. Their size 40 is drafted for 60cm long arms (23 5/8 inches) and they are just right for me. I did a small shoulder slope alteration, lowering the shoulder 1/4" and narrowing it 1/4", just because I was using thinner shoulder pads.

PT: As mangas da Burda são umas das poucas onde não tenho de fazer alterações tanto em comprimento como em largura. As mangas do tamanho quarenta são feitas para braços com 60cm de comprimento, o que se ajusta perfeitamente a mim. Fiz um pequeno ajuste baixando o ombro 5mm e encurtando outros 5mm, só porque usai chumaços mais finos.

EN: As you can observe in the photos, the jacket has subtle waist shaping, definitely not fitted to the waist. Back in the 90s I remember narrowing it, grading from 38 to 36 at the waist.

PT: COmo podem observar, a jaqueta tem uma pouca definição de cintura, não é muito ajustada. Na primeira versão lembro-me de ter diminuido a cintura do 38 para o 36 e memso assim a jaqueta não ficou muito ajustada.
The armhole from the wrong side / a cava vista do avesso
EN: The lining was just some remnant I had in my stash, just enough for this jacket and to cut some bias strips for the inside finish of the pants (in fact, all fabrics and notions used in this suit came from the stash). Although I made a simple lining, without piping or any other inside detail, I think it loos good and clean. There are no puckers on the lining, even on the sleeve caps.

PT: O tecido do forro era um resto que tinha guardado de um projeto anterior, mesmo à certa para forrar a jaqueta e para cortar umas tiras de viés para o aacabamento interior das calças (todos os materiais e tecidos usados neste conjunto já os tinha cá em casa, não comprei nada). EMbora tenha feito um forro simples, sem grandes detalhes como vivos ou bolsos interiores, acho que o forro ficou muito bem e com um aspeto muito limpo; não se vê pregas nem na cabeça das mangas.

The pants shaped waistband detail / O detalhe do cós guarnecido das calças
EN: As I had mentioned in my previous post, I altered the pants patter for fitting a larger tummy: I ended up discarding the front darts because after reducing them by half their width, they seemed so small and practically irrelevant. I shaved the small remaining dart width from center front instead and just eliminated the darts all-together. The front waist facing had to be re-drafted accordingly, of course. Instead of a slot zipper on the side, I opted for a lapped zipper and added a zipper-guard (I wouldn't like the metallic zipper teeth rubbing against my skin). I also altered the leg shaping of the original pants into a shorter length bell-bottom style (I was inspired by version B of this DP Studio pant pattern here).

PT: Como já tinha referido num artigo anterior, fiz um ajuste na cintura para acomodar a minha barriguinha, que já não é o que era. Comecei por reduzir as pinças para metade da sua largura, mas depois ficaram tão pequenas e irrelevantes que resolvi eliminá-las de todo e retirar a largura restante do meio da frente. Como é óbvio, a guarnição da cintura da frente teve de ser redesenhada de acordo. Em vez de um fecho centrado na costura lateral como pedia o modelo original, optei por um fecho de correr encoberto só de um lado e acrescentei uma guarnição interior, para os dentes metálicos não ficarem em contacto com a minha pele. Também alterei a forma da perna, encurtando-a e transformando-a em boca-de-sino, inspirada na versão B deste molde DP Studio (aqui).
CONCLUSION: I had a blast sewing this suit again and I am pretty sure I will wear it often as I wore its predecessor twenty years ago. It's an experience that I want to repeat some time soon, I just need to find the "perfect" fabrics! Thank you all for visiting and supporting, we'll meet again soon with another sewing adventure!

love this whole series. And I didn't realize that it was velveteen as you were sewing it. Great choice and you will be able to wear those pieces as separates with other things. looks great on you.
I always enjoy your blog Tanya, although I have had little time to comment this year. Really smart suit - so perfectly tailored, which is not easy with velveteen, given it's tendency to move. I do love the detail you share with all your garments - you are very competent with many sewing techniques.
