EN: As I've mentioned in the introductory article "New project details: buttonhole pockets with flaps on a 90s tailored coat", I had made this coat before in the late 90s (my first version was made of black woolen satin) and it was one of my favorite and most worn self-made garments of all time, until it became too worn out. At this point I salvaged the buttons with the hope of making the coat again some time in the future. That time has finally come and my new coat has everything to become my new favorite self-made garment of the year!

PT: Como mencionei no meu artigo "Detalhes de um novo projeto: bolsos avivados com paleta num casaco de alfaiataria dos anos 90", já tinha confecionado uma versão deste casaco no final dos anos 90 (usei um tecido com lã preto acetinado nessa primeira versão), e foi uma das peças de roupa confecionadas por mim que mais gostei e usei até hoje, até que ficou demasiado coçado e estragado. Quando chegou a esse ponto, salvei os botões com a intenção de um dia voltar a fazer o mesmo casaco. O dia finalmente chegou e o meu novo casaco tem tudo para ser o meu novo favorito do ano!
EN: This new version was made from a novelty fabric that I had in my stash, a tiny hounds-tooth cloth with woven golden metallic threads. I am quite happy with the fabric, it behaved exceptionally well when steam-pressing and with fusible interfacings. When I first made this coat I believe I cut size 40 on the shoulders and torso/sleeve length, tapering down to a 36 at the waist and out to 38 at the hips. Now I've cut size 40 and the only alteration was lengthening the sleeves (approximately 3/8", not a big adjustment) and cutting the undercollar in two symmetrical bias pieces with a center seam. I've added 3/8" (1cm) seam allowances and 1 1/2" (4cm) hem allowances to the fabric pieces; I adapted the pattern to cut the lining (basically discounting the facing width of the center front piece and back piece and also removing the facing width on all vents) and used 3/8" for both seam and hem allowances.
One of the features of this coat is the short notched collar, a really beautiful collar in my opinion:

PT: Esta nova versão do casaco foi confecionada com uma fazenda pata-de-galo miudinha, com fios metálicos em dourado tecidos. O tecido portou-se excecionalmente bem com o ferro e vapor, e também com a aplicação de entretelas termo-colantes. Na primeira versão do casaco lembro-me de traçar o molde com tamanho 40 nos ombros e comprimento do torso e mangas, diminuindo para um 36 na cintura e depois aumentando para um 38 na anca. Desta vez cortei o tamanho 40 no molde todo, apenas aumentando 1cm ao comprimento das mangas e modificando a parte de baixo da gola para ter duas partes simétricas cortadas em viés com uma costura no meio. Nas partes cortadas em tecido usai margens de 1cm e margens de bainha de 4cm. Para cortar o forro adaptei o molde da frente e costas para descontar a largura das vistas, e descontei também a largura das vistas das aberturas das mangas e da peça do meio das costas; cortei as partes em forro com margens de costura e de bainha de 1cm.
Uma das características deste casaco é a gola com bandas curtas que, na minha opinião, faz um efeito muito bonito:

EN: There's a tall vent on the center back; both bottom corners were finished with a mitered corner. To be able to finish the underlap with a mitered corner, the vent facing on the underlap should be twice as wide as the overlap vent facing width:

PT: Atrás tem uma abertura alta; ambos os cantos em baixo da abertura foram acabados com cantos mitrados. Para fazer o acabamento mitrado no canto que fica por baixo, a vista da abertura tem de ter o dobro da largura da vista do lado que se sobrepõe:
EN: One of the challenges of this pattern is sewing and applying the lining correctly, even more if the lining is bagged (sewn entirely or almost entirely by sewing machine to the coat), which was the case. There should be enough room for movement so the lining won't pull on the coat when putting the coat on and off and as we sit down with the coat on. Your coat is absolutely wonderful! As are your posts and info. I like the hidden buttons design too.
