"Le top Lacéré" from the book "Fashion Couture - 12 modèles de hauts à coudre"

EN Summary: The clever design and the complex inside finishing of this top really won me over. In this article, originally posted on tanysewsandknits.blogspot.com, you'll find all the details about it. Keep reading the full article.

EN: The previous photo shows the original model in cobalt blue and the next shows the technical drawing. Suggested fabrics for this top include batik, chintz, cotton, crepe, guipure lace, jacquard, linen, microfiber, ottoman, duchese satin, shantung, silk dupioni, velvet, viscose and african wax. The pattern is rated 2 out of 3 in difficulty level and it is provided in sizes 36 through 48 (DP Studio sizing), in a multi-pattern sheet very similar to what we find in Burdastyle magazines. The pattern pieces include seam/hem allowances (SAs are usually 3/8" in DP Studio patterns) and overlap so the pattern must be traced into tissue paper or similar. I cut size 40, which took about 1 yard of fabric (a nice cotton/linen blend with metallic golden finishing on the right side, from deep in my stash).

EN: This top is my second make from the book Fashion Couture; my first make was the pleated top with extended shoulders show on the cover (read the sewing review here).

EN: Besides the fabric, you'll need a 25" invisible zipper to be installed on the center back seam, some narrow bias binding for the armhole finishing (it can be cut from the self fabric or purchased) and fusible interfacing (including on-grain strips of fusible to stabilize curved seams).
---

EN: The "tear" openings are made in such way that the top of the opening (one meeting the shoulder seam and the other meeting the side seam) incorporate an overlap, providing a dynamic movement effect to the "tears":
---

EN: What really fascinated me with this pattern was the inside finishing; the opening facings are very cleverly engineered and the finishing is super clean and neat; note that I cut the facings with the golden side facing inside; I am slightly allergic to some metals so I prefer not taking risks with the golden side against my skin:
---

EN: The invisible zipper installed on the center back also has a facing, all-in-one with the back neckline facing; the facing gets caught by the hem of the top:
---

EN: The bias binding finishing on the armholes also turned out very neat:
---

EN: The neckline is close-fitting and in my case, I didn't have to alter it. If I had, the facings should be altered accordingly:
---

CONCLUSION: Another fascinating design from DP Studio! I'm really loving their challenging and edgy designs... It's a shame Dominique Pellen will cease producing patterns for the DIY market (although secretly I still have hope that he will reconsider ;) ). Thank you all for reading!

Tany, this design is just mesmerizing. Your skills and fabric choice really did justice to it's complexity. Just wow!

that choice of fabric is so sophisticated. what a great look. I think it could also be lengthened into a dress for an interesting look.

As a recent convert to DP's design aesthetic, I enjoyed your post very much. Have you made the pleated top LE503 from DP? I so look forward to all your posts. Thank you.

Hi Mary B.! Thank you! I haven't made it yet, but I have purchased the pattern very recently so I will probably make it sometime soon!

That is beautiful, both inside and out. I appreciate the close-up detail of the "tears" as it is not well-appreciated on the line drawing.
