DP Studio Le_301: Pleated wide leg pants (confinement sewing)

EN Summary: As one more week/weekend has passed, there's one more finished sewing project: this time I decided to use the fabric and most of the notions included in this SoChicBox kit to make a different pants pattern: DP Studio's Le301. Keep reading for more details.
---

EN: Le301 pants pattern was featured in the first DP Studio collection for the DIY market, circa 2016, and it's now sold out on DP studio's website (while it is still available from other affiliate sites, like Hamon Couture - here); the pattern is shipped from France so keep in mind that while France is in lock-down, most mail orders won't be shipped as normally.
---
EN: I've had this pattern for quite some time and finally decided to put it into the test. There's a small video on YouTube showing how the pants look in real life; I noticed that the fabric used was really light and after a close inspection on the pattern I believe I understand why: the pants front is really wide, thanks to three pleats on each side (only two are visible because one of the pleats sits inside other pleat). If a heavier fabric was used, the excess bulk created by the pleats may have been a problem. I ordered the pinstriped Théo SoChicBox, but having made a few other Théo pants from these SoChicBoxes, I decided to make this wide-leg pleated trousers instead; the fabric looked very similar to the original and I wanted to try a new pattern for a change. I traced size 40 like I did with the last Théo pants and the only alteration needed was to shorten the length for 2" because I didn't like the pants hem dragging on the floor (without this alteration they would look on me exactly as they look on the model below).
---

EN: Here's a close up on the front and zipper-fly opening; notice the pleats folding towards the front:
---
EN: The front waistband was sewn as instructed, but instead of making two buttonholes only on the inner right waistband and sewing the two buttons on the left waistband (the buttons would be hidden by the overlap then) I used two special purpose pant's flat hook&bridges, having the buttonhole mad through all layers on the left front and the button sewn right behind the flat hooks on the right side. The effect is exactly the same (no buttons are visible when the pants are zipped up) yet the closure is more sturdy in my opinion.
---
EN: Here are the pants seen from the side; the stripes angle on the front panel may provide a clue on how deep the pleats are; the front is cut on the grain, but since the pleats spread, the side seam is way off grain.
---
EN: A close-up on the hip pockets show a few original features of this pattern: the pockets are angled in a way that plays with the grain of the inner pocket/hip inset. This creates a very beautiful effect in my opinion. Also notice that while there is a straight set-in waistband on the front, the back has a shaped high waist which takes waistband facings instead, on wrong side. The overall effect is a high waist, but the front and the back offer completely different views, highlighted in this case by the direction of the pinstripes:
---
EN: Here's the pants seen from the back:
---
PT: Aqui têm as costas:
EN: There's a single welt pocket on the left back side; illustrated instructions are provided with the pattern but I found the pattern pieces didn't match exactly with the illustrations. I did figure it out (the pocket is exactly the same as on the Théo pants, only placed on the left side instead of the right side) and this time I remembered to make the buttonhole before closing the pocket bags, so here's how it looks with a button closure:
---
EN: Once again I managed to cut a Le500 top (version A) from the fabric remnants and here's how it looks together with the pants:
---
EN: I can't get enough of this top pattern; it looks great with any bottom, IMO:
---
EN: There's also a short movie showing the top worn with the pants:
---
CONCLUSION: I'm really happy with the outcome of this project and highly recommend both Le301 and Le500, if you can find them. Thank you all for reading, please stay safe.
---

those pants are really interesting, I like how the pattern has waistband in front but then smooth in back. great sewing and chic outfit.

The pants look great in a stripe. It really is interesting how the stripes play.
