EN Summary: I made this skirt (model 113 from the April 2019 issue of BurdaStyle magazine
) adding a couple of finishing enhancements to the original model. Keep reading the full article!

EN: The April edition of BurdaStyle magazine is one of my favorites from 2019; this is the second pattern from this issue that I'm reviewing (read the article about model 102B here). Model 113 is a six-panel A-line skirt which ends right above the knee, featuring in-seam pockets on the front panels seams, D-ring belt crossing under the right-front panel, back seam invisible zipper and a cute bag that hangs from the belt through a couple of loop-carriers. After measuring the pattern carefully, I cut size 40 based on my waist and hip measurements plus desirable wearing ease.
---
EN: Three-dimensional details, mostly over-sized and voluminous  pockets, are really trending for a while now. This "external pocket", not being over-sized or bulky, is a cute detail which embodies the trend without falling into the boldness of the runaways. The original bag is sewn from a rectangle of self-fabric, edged with the over-locker/serger. The margins are simply turned inside and top-stitched.
---
EN: In my opinion, a lining is always a better finishing, so I decided to line the bag, simply cutting the same piece from lining and stitching lining and fabric together around the edges, right sides facing (don't forget to leave a small section un-stitched to be able to turn everything to the right side). My little bag looks very similar to the original from the right side, yet much better from the wrong side, when I open it.
---
EN: As you can see, the wrong side of the fabric and the allowances don't show when I open the bag:
---
EN: Next photo shows the bag before closing its side seams and top-stitching. Note that all edges and fold-lines are hand-basted; it makes pressing the pocket much more accurate. Also note that the closing tab and the hanging loops are stitched to the pocket while it is still with the sides open; the snaps were also applied in advance:
---
EN: The skirt also features two in-seam pockets placed at the front-side panel junctions. The inner pocket bag (which is stitched to the side panel and is most visible when the hands are in the pockets) was cut of self-fabric, while the outer pocket bag (stitched to the front panel and hidden from sight) is cut of lining. The resulting pocket bag is less bulky than if the two pocket bags were cut from self-fabric.
---
EN: Since the skirt pairs with a So chic Box top which has asymmetric slits, I decided to add a slit to the skirt on the right front-side panel seam. I also added a full lining to the skirt, made of cotton batiste, for wearing comfort and superior finishing inside.
---
EN: Here's the back of the skirt, where the invisible zipper is applied:
---
EN: The cotton batiste lining was stitched to the waist facings before applying them to the skirt; then, the facings/lining unit was machine-stitched to the invisible zipper tape along the zipper opening (the zipper is already stitched to the skirt at this stage); the next step is stitching the facings to the skirt at the waist seam and under-stitching the waist seam. This industrial method produces excellent results and to understand it better I highly recommend this YouTube video by Paukshte Fashion Workshop (click here). Her skirt is un-lined but the same principles apply.

EN: I was very happy with the final result and highly recommend this pattern. You can order it in pdf format from the BurdaStyle website (here) if you don't have the magazine. This article was written in collaboration with BurdaStyle Portugal and I hope you guys enjoyed it! Thanks for visiting!

this is such a great pattern, the color of your outfit is really pretty. I made it in denim and I think i will make it again in the winter in a wool.

Beth, I loved your denim version and I think this model would look absolutely stunning in wool! Great idea!
