So Chic Box Jade in off-white polka dot sheer cotton blend - Vestido Jade (versão em tecido misto de algodão branco-pérola às bolinhas)

EN Summary: In my opinion, the Jade dress is perhaps the most exquisite pattern in the So Chic Box collection; the version with off-white polka-dot fabric came out in the first release and I was completely mesmerized by the outcome. Keep reading the full article.

Continuem a ler o artigo completo.

EN: I purchased the kit from Hamon Paris (here) a while ago. I believe this version is no longer available, but there's still a similar kit with the bottom part made of different solid white fabric here.
The Jade dress is described as a sleeveless empire-line dress, body-hugging in a subtle feminine way; it follows the contours of the body on the bottom skirt while the upper bodice is worked with added volume thanks to the shirring of the fabric. A back zipper on the bottom skirt allows the dress to be put on and off without difficulty, while the upper bodice remains open on the back. The standing collar buttons on the back thanks to three buttons and corresponding self-fabric button loops. The dress can be made of a single fabric two distinct fabrics, due to the different nature of the upper bodice and bottom skirt. If made of two fabrics, the bottom skirt could be made of a fabric with more structure while the upper bodice looks stunning on a sheer drapery fabric. The dress is fully lined (the lining is bagged) and features a walking ease slit on the back. Here's a photo of the original mode (credits: DP Studio):

EN: The kit includes the multi-size pattern, French illustrated instructions, the polka-dot fabric, matching color thread, an invisible zipper (surprisingly too short for the dress - I had to use a longer zipper!), fusible interfacing, straight-grain fusible tape for taping the armholes, three buttons for the collar and ivory color lining (enough for lining the bodice and the skirt). This time I couldn't save enough fashion fabric for a top, but I will save the remnants to make insets or other kind of details using other fabrics as main fabric.
---
EN: When I overlapped the polka-dot sheer fabric with the ivory lining, I noticed the two layers would still be a little see.through, so I decided to use another lining from my stash, this nude stretch Neva'viscon, great for summer garments because it is breathable and fresh. Also notice  that the pattern includes specific pattern pieces for the lining, as shown below:
---
EN: Let's see the details of the finished dress, shall, we? Here's the bodice front seen up-close; the gathers/rushing is strategically placed so it avoids the armholes an the shoulders:
---
EN: Here's the dress seen from the back:

PT: Aqui têm as costas do vestido:
EN: The back invisible zipper:

PT: O feho invisível:
EN: The back collar:

PT: A gola atrás:
EN: Here's the back slit; the all-in-one slit facing is reinforced with fusible interfacing and there is a separate hem facing (also fused, of course). I found out that the slit facing is drafted 3/8" too wide (as it was it wouldn't match the width of the hem facing and would never had produced a perfect mitered corner as illustrated in the instructions; it wouldn't match the skirt lining slit inset either) so I corrected it.
---
EN: Here's the mitered corner I was talking about:
---
PT: Aqui têm o canto mitrado que referi:
EN: The pattern and the instructions are planned for stitching the lining to the skirt entirely by machine, and that's exactly what I did; of course anyone can opt for hand-stitching the lining to the skirt around the vent and/or a hanging lining (one which is not bagged). The skirt part of the dress is stitched first, then the lining is bagged (first machine-stitched around the vent facings, then to the hem, and finally to the zipper itself; the upper part remains un-stitched and should be hand-basted together with the skirt. This bagged skirt will later be stitched to the already lined bodice, sandwiched between bodice and bodice lining around the raised waistline. To do this, the collar must not be applied yet while reaching in between bodice and bodice lining through the neckline and grabbing all layers together at the waistline to be stitched on the sewing machine (hope this makes sense; the instructions have illustrations that show the process clearly).
---
EN: Here's the front of the bodice seen from the wrong side; the armhole facings were interfaced and stitched to the lining first, then the bodice inner shell was stitched to the outer shell along the armholes (always reaching in between inner and outer shell through the neckline, grabbing both layers together to be able to stitch them right sides facing); the facings were under-stitched also.
---
EN: Here's the wrong side of the bodice; as you can see, the center back opening also has facings:
---
CONCLUSION: The dress is gorgeous and DP's size 42 fits me like a glove! The choice of a darker lining in favor of eliminating a slight see-through effect is debatable and depends on individual taste,... Of course there are nude undergarments made to be worn with slight see-through garments, yet, with the ivory lining the burn-out polka-dots would have been barely perceptible on the dress. With the nude lining you can definitely see the polka-dots, and adding to that all inner seams are also perceived (hence the importance of clean and neat sewing here, which I don't mind at all performing). I can tell you that comments on the dress as I wore it once were like "OMG it's so perfect and you can see the inside is perfect too! How did you do that?!" - So I am happy with my new dress and my choice of lining color :).
Thank you all for following along and for the lovely comments on my latest posts!

It’s not often that a pattern comes along that makes me go ‘wow’, but this one does. Beautifully sewn, well done.
