So Chic Box Léo in dusty pink Broderie Anglaise (Le514)

EN Summary: This So Chic Box kit caught my eye mainly because of the fabric. With an optimized cutting layout I was able to cut not only the Léo top but also a coordinating pair of pleated shorts (to be reviewed in my next post). Keep reading the full article.

PT Sumário: Este kit So Chic Box atraíu-me logo por causa do tecido. Continuem a ler o artigo completo.

EN: The Léo top is described as: "This ultra-modern top is easy to make and easy to wear. Its original seam detailing makes it special yet totally wearable on a day to day basis. It closes on the back with an invisible zip and has dropped shoulders, providing it an unstructured look. The hem is top-stitched and finished on the inside with bias binding. It is possible to use several types of fabric, but opt for fabrics with a certain body so the top keeps its shape." (the text is adapted from DP Studio's website; next photo also courtesy of DP Studio).

EN: This kit is unfortunately sold out but you can still find other fabric options at Hamon Paris and DP Studio.
---
EN: As usual I found everything needed to make the top in the So Chic Box: pattern (multi-size), instructions, invisible zipper, pre-folded bias tape, fusible interfacing, matching color thread and the fabric.
---
EN: The fabric is a strong cotton eyelet (broderie anglaise) in a beautiful shade of dusty pink:
---
EN: Here you can see the sewing progression with bias binding applied to the seam edges and interfaced hems and vent facings. The fabric has a border without embroidery so to make the most out of it I cut all pieces on the crosswise grain; the hems get no embroidery which is alright because they are not seen from the right side when the top is finished:
---
EN: Next you can see the invisible zipper applied on the center back seam and the finishing on the wrong side:
---
EN: The bias binding in the kit is pre-folded and ready to use; to stitch it to the seam allowances I used a magnet seam guide, which presses it towards the edge and also allows a constant stitching width from the edge. I also used a teflon foot on the sewing machine (both for sewing the binding and the seams) because with the regular foot I was getting skipped stitches due to the bulky uneven surface of the eyelet fabric. The teflon foot slides more easily and solved the problem.
---
EN: Here are a few more shots of the already finished top, on the wrong side:
---

EN: The mitered corners are another great feature of this top; the pattern is drafted specifically for this technique so making them is a "no brainer":
---
EN: Here's the finished top on the dressform, together with a pair of shorts made from the remnant eyelet fabric (I will review the pattern in my next post!). The asymmetric vents (one is placed on the side and the other is shifted towards the front) really are a nice feature:
---

CONCLUSION: I really love the pattern and the top is not hard to make when compared with other patterns from the DP Studio designer's main line; I will certainly revisit this pattern again :).
Thank you all for reading and stay tuned for the short's sewing review!
---
