EN: I had this pearl white coating fabric in my stash for a year or two (it was carefully packaged in a ziplog bag, together with matching charmeuse lining) and, in spite of not being a true noble quality wool velours (it's a polyester blend), its color was just I had envisioned for this coat. You see, I already had made the jacket version of this pattern (check it out here) and the collar/lapels shape truly appealed to me. So I extended my traced copy of the pattern (size 40) according to the magazine's pattern sheet, adding the pocket placement lines on the center front panels and eliminating the waistband. I left out the cuff tabs because I only had four buttons.
---
EN: There are two special features in this coat: the wide pointy double-welt pockets (see the tutorial here) and the way the collar is constructed with a hidden collar dart which improves the fit of such wide collar and lapels. When I reviewed the jacket, I mentioned that the construction of the collar is worth studying; next photo shows the outer shell with the under-collar already attached to the neckline:
---
EN: I used fusible interfacing techniques for this coat, same as the previous jacket; the front was entirely interfaced, along with the under-collar. The neckline dart is slashed open for about two inches before stitching the under-collar(already attached to the collar stand) to the front, exactly from the lapel notch to the edge of the dart leg (image credits: BurdaStyle magazine):
---
EN: The collar is ten stitched to the neckline starting and ending at the darts points, as seen:
---
EN: The seam is then pressed open after being clipped along curves and corners to reduce seam bulk:
---
EN: Here's the finished coat seen from all sides:
---

EN: The collar, lapels and front edges are top-stitched (I didn't so the topstitching on the jacket version but really loved the effect on this coating fabric):
---

EN: Here's the front closure detail (all buttons take little anchor buttons on the wrong side except the one on the right as worn, which takes a medium size button on the wrong side to hold the under-lap of the jacket in place):
---

EN: I made a bound buttonhole on the overlap side (and a regular machine stitched buttonhole on the underlap):
---
EN: The bottom hem/facing/lining intersection was finished the industrial way, while the lining was bagged:
---
EN: Paukshte Fashion Workshop YouTube channel shared a great tutorial on this method; here's Part I and Part II of the tutorial:
---

EN: Here's my sewing label on the back collar facing; I also want to point out that I drafted the back lining differently, joining yoke and back patterns, transferring the horizontal darts formed by the yoke to the neckline and adding an ease pleat on the center back.
---
CONCLUSION: I love the coat in spite of knowing it will spend more time in the dry cleaners than my other coats ;). I think the shape of the collar is very flattering and I love the top-stitching on the edges with this type of fabric. Last year I had made a pair of white wide-leg pants (yet another version of Burda6573) and a turtleneck top using DP Studio's pattern Le511 (without the flounce), and together with this coat they make the perfect winter-white look (see the look here). Hope you like it and come back for more! Thank you all for visiting!
---

Tany - I love this version of the coat even though it will spend quality time at the dry cleaners. But what I really love, is that you just used this pattern and both coats are two completely different looks!

that is gorgeous, so beautiful and the pockets and topstitching are perfection. I appreciate seeing the design details, I have a Vogue pattern from about 10 years ago that has that same detail of the dart in the lapel. it's a nice feature. Happy New Year to you Tany!

Every woman needs a pea coat in her wardrobe. This one in snow white is spectacular. Another work of art, Tany.

I'm glad you said it about being in the cleaners so much! Only a woman with a fabulous coat collection(which you certainly have) can afford to make a white coat. This really is perfection. Many years ago I made a jacket from Neue Mode with the same dart. It's a nice detail. The collar and lapels are stunning
