EN: I wanted to make this dress since I saw Beth's version (SunnyGal Studio blog - click here). I knew that finding the right striped fabric was key in this case so the idea went dormant in my brain until I spotted this neoprene-like fabric with vertical black&white stripes at a local fabric store. It's a four-way stretch material (not too stretchy though) with good recovery so I didn't think twice and brought it home with me. I cut size 42 but ended up having to take in on the sides so I guess I would have gotten away with size 40 (I wanted a body hugging fit with this one!). I also lengthened it 2" so the hem would hit a spot where my legs are thinner, below the knees (I have large knees!). The fabric is not see through at all and is very soft to the touch so I didn't have to add a lining (the original isn't lined either).

EN: As you can see, the dress has quite a few bias cut style lines. I tried to match the stripes the best I could (or un-match them on purpose, like I did on the back shoulder pieces, to make them stand out more), but some seams can't be matched because they are cut at different angles. What is really important is keeping the symmetry, specially on the back. Another key element with this dress is stabilizing the bias seam lines with special purpose stabilizing fusible tape. The dress has a all-in-one neckline&armhole facing (which is interfaced, of course) but even so the neckline and the armholes should be stabilized. Installing the back invisible zipper while mirroring the back (cut on the bias!) was certainly a challenge but it is doable with patience and some hand-basting. Don't forget to interface the allowances where the zipper is to be installed; it is critical on bias-cut allowances.

EN: Here are the details of the finished dress from all views; people who have seen me wearing it say it looks better on me than on the dressform but you'll see for yourself as soon as I get the chance of taking outfit photos for Tany et La Mode.
---
EN: If you pay close attention to the original dress photo you'll notice the left front shoulder piece (as worn) has a different grain on my version; I followed the straight grain line in the pattern for view B so either Burda team made a mistake on the pattern or on the sample dress....
---
EN: I love that the dress looks different from every angle :)
---
EN: It is a really spectacular dress, don't you guys think? Thank you all for dropping by!

OOO I love your version, it's fantastic and the fabric choice is perfect. The one I made used fabric that was a bit too thin, mostly because it is difficult to find vertically striped fabric. I think a more stable knit like yours is a better one. Can't wait to see it on you.
