EN: The blazer pattern is from the Burda International magazine 1/1996, mod924 and it is described as cinched waist lined blazer with single-breasted three-button closure, three-quarter sleeves with cuff slits and round pocket flaps; chest pocket flaps are merely decorative while hip pockets are functional. I cut size 40 which has a back length of 28.5 inches (72,5cm). I didn't made any alterations to the pattern, only did the construction slightly differently than suggested by the instructions. I will highlight the differences as I show the details of the blazer.

PT: O molde deste blazer é da revista Burda Internacional 1/1996, mod924 e está descrito como blazer cintado com abertura simples de três botões, mangas a três-quartos com rachas e paletas dos bolsos arredondadas. No peito as paletas são meramente decorativas enquanto na anca os bolsos são plenamente funcionais.. Cortei o tamanho 40, que tem um comprimento atrás de 72,5cm. Não precisei de fazer alterações ao molde em si, mas o processo de confeção foi um pouco diferente do sugerido nas instruções (irei evidenciando as diferenças à medida que mostro os detalhes).
EN: Besides fusing the entire front, the facings, the collar, the public sides of the flaps, the back area around neckline and armholes and the hem allowances, I also fused the sleeve cap area (besides adding extra sew-in sleeve-heads and thin tailoring shoulder-pads after the sleeves have been inserted); on the back I cut the interfacing of the shape of a back shield, covering the entire upper back area and armholes. I used think knit fusible interfacing for all areas to be interfaced and fusible tapes for the front edge, roll-line, armholes and neckline. The tape provides extra stabilization and crisper edges. The lightweight knit fusible interfacing is ideal for soft tailoring and produces excellent results with linen. First the front and all its details is prepped; the next picture shows that I made bound buttonholes (the original are machine-worked) and the inner construction of the pockets, which is very original, in my opinion: the pocket bags as sewn along the same seam as the center-most waist dart and are hold together at the side-seams:

PT: Além de entretelar a frente por inteiro, as vistas, a gola, as faces das paletas que ficam para fora, o decote e cavas nas costas e as margens de bainha, também entretelei as cabeças das mangas (além disso, depois de montadas no blazer também lhes cosi cabeças de manga de feltro macio e coloquei chumaços pequenos); nas costas, cortei a entretela de forma a cobrir toda a parte superior das costas e cavas. Para todas as áreas entreteladas usei entretela termo-colante de malha fina e fitas termo-colantes para dar mais estabilização ao longo da orla da frente, decote, cavas e linha de dobra das lapelas. Esta entretela fininha e as fitas termo-colantes são ótimas para blazers de estrutura leve e ideais para trabalhar com linho. A primeira coisa a fazer é preparar as frentes, confecionando todos os seus detalhes; na foto abaixo podem ver que optei por casas avivadas (em vez do caseado à máquina do modelo na revista) e também que os bolsos da anca são confecionados de uma forma bem original, sendo que as funduras são fechadas no prolongamento da costura da pinça central e depois presas nas costuras laterais do blazer:

EN: Note that there isn't any welt on this pocket (I followed the original pocket construction instructions so it is supposed to look like this); the flap and the inner self-fabric pocket bag are sewn to the upper edge of the pocket opening while the outer pocket bag (in lining) is sewn to the lower edge of the pocket opening and under-stitched. Another thing I did differently was using lining instead of self-fabric for the non-public face of the flaps, thus reducing bulk on the pocket application area:

PT: Notem que o bolso não apresenta qualquer pestana ou margem avivada (segui as instruções da revista para coser os bolsos, por isso é suposto ficarem assim); a paleta e a fundura interior em tecido são cosidas à margem superior da abertura do bolso enquanto a outra fundura, em forro, é cosida e pespontada com as margens para o lado do forro no lado inferior da abertura do bolso. A única modificação que fiz nos bolsos foi cortar a parte de dentro das paletas em forro em vez de no tecido principal; assim as paletas ficam mais finas e as costuras de aplicação menos volumosas.

EN: A close-up on one of the buttons and bound buttonhole (the buttons were ordered from the same online store as the fabric and lining - here and are slightly over 1 1/4" in diameter); my first make also had flower-shaped green buttons, just not as elaborate as these ones.

PT: O detalhe de um dos botões e respetiva casa avivada (os botões, tal como o tecido e o forro, foram encomendados na tecidos.com.pt, aqui, e têm 3,2cm de diâmetro); os botões do primeiro blazer que fiz nos anos 90 também eram verdes em forma de flor, mas não tão elaborados como estes.
EN: The lining of this second version of the blazer was bagged (industrial method) while the instructions suggest a mixed construction with the lining sewn by hand to the hem of the blazer and sleeves. Besides stitching the lining to the facings and hems almost entirely by machine (with a small section un-stitched so I could turn everything to the right side again) I also hand-tacked all the facings to the outer shell and the lining to the shoulders and bottom of the armholes so it will never shift out of place while wearing the blazer. There are also a hem pleat and center back pleat on the lining for wearing ease.

PT: O forro nesta segunda versão que fiz do blazer foi colocado todo à máquina pelo método industrial (deixando apenas uma pequena abertura para virar tudo para o direito), enquanto as instruções sugerem um método misto com o forro cosido à mão na bainha atrás e nas bainhas das mangas. Antes de virar o blazer tive o cuidado de coser com pontos cruzados à mão as vistas ao blazer; também prendi o forro ao blazer à mão nos ombros e base das cavas, tudo isto para que fique com uma construção mais íntegra, sem que o forro se desloque ao usar o blazer. Na bainha atrás e no centro das costas o forro forma pregas para lhe dar alguma liberdade de movimento no interior do blazer.

CONCLUSÃO: Para mim é uma alegria reviver peças feitas nos anos 90, uma das épocas em que fui mais feliz e produtiva com as minhas costuras! Quase posso dizer que me faz voltar aqueles tempos de juventude ;) :D. Este fato não é o primeiro a ser revisitado (basta procurarem pela etiqueta "sewing from the 90s" aqui) e também não será o último, certamente.
