EN: Pattern is described as "Loose fitting lined button front dresses. Misses sizes have belt and loops" and it can be ordered in two size ranges: S-M-L-XL (Misses) and 3-4 5-6 7-8 (Kids). I ordered the Misses range and would further describe this pattern as double-breasted and fairly straight cut, with interesting self-lapel stand collar, back yoke overlap and shoulder tabs. It features side in-seam pockets adorned with buttoned flaps. Fabric suggestions include cotton blends, chino cloth, twill and sateen. I used 100% linen for my version and I think it worked very well with this design. I cut size M with a single modification: I flared it slightly from the waist down tapering from nothing at the waist to size L at the hem because although it looks slightly flared in the line-drawings, the dress is practically straight. I think it looks more feminine with a slight A-line so I altered it.

EN: The instructions of this pattern are well written and are clear, yet I believe they made a mistake on the step telling to press the shoulder dart to the armhole side; if you check the truing of the dart's upper edge it is clear that it should be pressed towards the center instead. The instructions also suggest a classic tailoring approach with only the front facing interfaced with sew-in interfacing. This might work fine with fabrics like twill or gabardine, but in my case I opted for a soft tailoring approach, using fusible thin knit interfacing and fusible tapes. The first steps involve finishing the outer and inner shells leaving the side seams open so I will show what I did with each of them. On the outer shell, I stabilized all edges with fusible tape, along with the armholes and neckline; I also fused the buttonhole placement area because I opted for bound buttonholes instead of the machine-worked on the original cover model.
---
EN: The bound buttonholes are stitched at this stage, and then finished on the facing side when the garment is completed:
---
EN: The pocket openings should also be reinforced with strips of fusible interfacing, cut along its stable direction (lengthwise grain). Instead of cutting all pocket bags from lining, only the pocket bags that attach to the front are cut from lining; they are stitched to the opening with 1/4" seam allowances (the flaps are stitched together with the pocket bags but they are on the right side, so not visible in the photo):
---
EN: On the back panels I used pocket bags cut from self-fabric and stitched them with normal 5/8" seam allowances:
---
EN: Also on the back, the neckline was reinforced with fusible tape and also stay-stitched because the seam allowances will have to be clipped for the collar construction later:
---
EN: Instead of just turning in a hem, I lined the overlapping back yoke, which is now in place over the back panel (shoulder seams are closed together with the fronts, while armholes and side seams are just hand basted to keep the yoke in place):
---
EN: Moving on to the inner shell, the facings were fused with the thin knit interfacing, the center back facing seam was closed and the facings were stitched to the lining (side seams are still open):
---
EN: There are two points of note: firstly there are no facings on the armholes, hence it is very convenient that the armholes are reinforced with fusible tape; also note that although the instructions fail to mention it, the armholes should be under-stitched to keep the lining from rolling outwards. The second point of note is the height of the facing on the back; it is like this because it will turn outwards and be stitched to the outer shell neckline, producing a stand collar on the back together with the facing:
---
EN: On the flat I am showing how the stand collar will look like; the seam that joins facings with outer shell will be hidden under the lapels and only visible along the back neckline! I find this detail very interesting and smart in terms of pattern-making technique!
---
EN: Next the outer shell will be joined with the inner shell along the facings' edges (and under-stitched), the armholes will be stitched and under-stitched and side seams on outer shell an inner shell will be stitched on a single step, while the in-seam pockets are also constructed! Stay tuned for more!
---

This dress looks fabulous and I am trying to decide whether to make this one or a similar pattern in a recent Burda magazine. In the meantime, Tany, can I ask about Paco Peralta's own patterns, i.e. the half circle skirt, do they include instructions too. I know you sew them a lot and hope you don't mind me asking, thank you.

Hi Chris T. and thanks for the lovely comment. Paco's patterns include basic instructions without illustrations, yet they are usually very easy to sew,so I don't think very detailed instructions are necessary. If you have any doubt you can email Paco about the step or steps that you don't understand and he will further explain them 😊😊

I have looked at this pattern as it seems to me that it would be a good Coat for spring and autumn to wear over skinny pants and a T shirt . Its really like a sleeveless trench coat
I hate tying things around my waist though and so would probably want to wear it o[pen with
the belt in the loops and then hanging down to the sides.Would you ever wear it like that?
It would be great when you model it to try it like that as I would love to see how it looks and to have your thoughts on doing that Marianne

Hi Marianne, thanks for your comment! I will certainly wear this as a vest, exatctly as you described; the only issue are the colors I can pair it with. I think it will look best with neutral light colors lime sa.s or light gray. Wearing it with jeans and a white T-shirt is also an option, IMO.

Marianne, sorry fot the typos (I'm typing on my cell) the colors are sand, light grey, and other light neutrals
