EN: As soon as this pattern was released I knew I had to make it; I love the silhouette and the simple lines of the pattern, together with the couture level embellishment and finishing. Below there's a video review of the original garment released by Vogue, where you can really appreciate the fine details of the garments

EN: For my version I used medium weight 100% linen purchased from tecidos.com.pt (here) - this online shop has several webs according to the country of origin, so yours may be a different web address (for example in Spain it's www.telas.es). I also used 100% silk organza from my stash, 100% polyester thread and am invisible zipper as requested in the instructions. I followed the instructions interfacing the neckline/armhole facings and cut everything I needed for views A and C (shorter tunic and culottes):
---
EN: The instructions are alright and the tunic is easy to sew; the only difficulty that may arise is sewing the organza inset with a consistent width. The instructions will have you cut the insets of a certain width and rely on the seam allowance's fixed width to achieve perfect results, but I know this is difficult when using bias because the stripes tend to stretch and distort a little. Silk organza is undoubtedly easier to handle because it's quite stable, yet Paco shared with me a different method to apply the inset which I found to be easier and full-proof if executed carefully. It will deliver a constant 8mm width (5/16 of an inch), using the presser foot distance from the center needle position to the edge as guide. The steps are as follow:
1 - Sew the organza insets to one of the front panels (I started with the right front, sewing from the neckline down to the hem);
2 - press along the seam, then press it open and finally press the seam allowances towards the front;
3 - place the right front with the organza inset on top of the left front, right sides together; measure from the previous stitching line to the edge (SA width plus inset width). Note: the inset width is the distance from the centered needle to the edge of the presser foot (on my machine it's 5/16"), Secure with pins or hand-baste.
4 - Stitch the organza inset to the left front from the neckline down, using the presser foot width as a guide:

1 - Coser o viés a uma das frentes com margem de 1,6cm (comecei com a frente direita, cosendo do decote até abaixo);
2 - Passar a costura a ferro, depois assentar a costura com as margens abertas e finalmente assentar as margens para o lado da frente;
5 - Press along seam, press it open, then towards the left front side, like it was done on the other side. It looks like this:
---
No final fica assim:
6 - Finish off by serging the SAs as seen below. Note that I followed the instructions by leaving extra organza tape on the top, and applying the facings next, then the organza to the facings; I came to the conclusion that stitching the facings to the neckline and under-stitching the neckline first and then sewing the organza inset to both fronts and facings on a single path is easier and more precise though.
---
EN: Here's how it looks stitching the facings to the front last; it's not bad on the right side:
---
EN: Yet the wrong side was slightly twisted. I ended up adding a small thread tack inside the facing, joining the two fronts at the neckline, to keep the organza inset from stretching at this stress point.
---
PT: No entanto no avesso a organza torceu ligeiramente.
EN: The next photo shows the process of hemming the tunic and achieving the mitered corners (done exactly as the pattern instructions. I had the hem basted and then topstitched from teh right side, stopping at the organza inset (it looks neater that way):
---
EN: This garment has three labels! My own, and I added Paco's and also the Vogue Patterns Designer Original label (a dear friend emailed be a batch from the U.S.!).
---
Conclusion: This pattern has been a best-seller from Vogue Patterns and I think it's well deserved! It is masterfully designed and it drapes beautifully. The armholes sit a little higher (are more close fitting) from the usual Vogues, but I actually prefer them this way. I am now in the process of sewing the matching culottes and I can't wait to wear the full set! Happy Sewing to all!
---
