Macacão florido: final - Floral print jumpsuit: final review

Português
English (uncheck the other box and check this one)

Molde: Revista Patrones nº294, modelo 18

Pattern: Patrones magazine #296, model 18

Description: Jumpsuit has pleated bodice and baggy pants, waist shirring (click here to see how it’s done), and invisible side and ankle zippers. I cut a size 42 (it corresponds roughly to Burda’s size 40)

Fabric used: Synthetic Georgette floral print (black with ivory little flowers)

Alterations: As I mentioned on previous post, I interfaced some areas (click here). When I first tried the jumpsuit on, I discovered that my movements were limited (I couldn’t take big steps) and also the back of the jumpsuit would ride down when I was sit. This is usually due to insufficient crotch length to accommodate the sitting position. If you observe the pattern on the next picture, it would seem that the pants have low crotch (in fact there’s no crotch seam, the pants are cut on the fold), but this is deceiving because this jumpsuit has the waist above the natural waist – the shirring is made on the pants). So what to do to fix this?

I decided to add a crotch gusset, unstitching the side seams across the crotch for about 18 inches and add a fish shaped gusset on this area. It is barely noticeable in the next picture:

After this fix, I was quite pleased with the wearing comfort and freedom of movement achieved and I proclaimed the project as finished.

Details:
The bodice and the shirring on the waist:

The invisible zipper on the left side:

Bodice on the dressform:

Conclusion: My goal was to make a floral jumpsuit that wasn’t just like the ones everybody else is wearing and that I could wear on a more sophisticated note. I believe I achieved exactly what I was looking for and I’m quite happy with the end result!

Thank you all for visiting!

ETA: See me wearing the jumpsuit here

Looks great and nice save on the crotch fix. I am just trying to figure out how you got it to hang so nicely on the dress form!

Bunny: Thanks, LOL, I had to remove the dress form from the stand, slip one leg of the jumpsuit on the stand and re-attach the dressform to the stand (the stand is attached on the side, not the center of the dressform) and finally I was able to dress it over the dressform!
