Os bolsos dos corsários Escorpión – The pockets of the Escorpion capris

Português
English (uncheck the other box and check this one)

O fundo do bolso é então cosido e as margens rematadas e aparadas:

O prémio “I Love Your Blog” da Andrea e da SenaSews:

Fiquem bem!

I’m still here, though overloaded with work… That’s life and I hope these busy times end soon.

So, without further ado, let’s address the first subject of this entry: the construction of the front-hip pockets (aka side-front slanted pockets) with flaps on the Escorpion capris. I’ve explained before the construction of front-hip pockets on trousers (see it here) but in this particular case the pockets have decorative buttoned flaps. There are always two pieces involved on this kind of pockets: the pocket piece (hip inset) which is always cut in fabric and the pocket facing, which I preferred cutting in lining to reduce bulk, in this case:

There’s of course a flap; its right side is made of interfaced fabric and the wrong side is made of lining. The buttonhole should be previously worked on the flap. The only trick involved here is stitching the flap between the front panel of the trousers and the pocket facing. The flap (right side facing up) is placed along the pocket’s edge (right side of the front pants) and the pocket facing is placed right on top of it. The stitching joins all the three pieces together as seen next:

The pocket facing is then turned to the inside, keeping the flap pointing up, and the edge is basted, then pressed and finally topstitched along the edge. You can sew the button to the pants now:

The pocket piece is then pinned in place and the pocket bags are pinned together (the side seams don’t need to be closed because they will be caught by the side seams of the pants):

The pocket bag is stitched and the SAs are zigzagged or serged:

Only now we can proceed with the making of the pants. As I said before, the pocket side will be stitched together with the side seam and the upper edge will be stitched to the waistband.

Finally I have a couple of pics (not very good pictures because I had no time to make a proper photo shoot). I’ve been losing some weight (do you know the “stress diet”?) so the capris are a little large now, but over all I’m happy with the fit of Patrones pant patterns on me (I had no time to make a muslin so these are straight out of the magazine; I just measured them to make sure they’d fit):

While I was absent from blogland a few friends nominated me for blog awards:

The “Art Stitch Life Award” (translated word by word) from Celina, Chuana, Monica, and Ana:

The “Personal Effort Award” from Ana, Ann, Sigrid, Carolyn and Mirela:

The “I Love Your Blog Award” from Andrea and SenaSews:

I hope I didn’t left anyone out! To all of you, my deepest thanks!

In the meanwhile I’ve been taking every chance to work on my coat for The Great Coat Sew Along. I have all the fabric and underlining cut and I’m fusing the underlining and thread tracing all the pieces. As soon as I can I’ll show you some progress! Thanks for visiting!

Tany, it's so nice to see you posting:) Your outfit looks fantastic and you look great! Thank you for this step by step. I think it will come in handy when I "one" day get around to making my capris "Donna" #12, (no flaps)from the 269 Patrones mag.

Pra mim ficaram ótimas as peças.

Such a nice treatment for the pockets. It really isn't that hard to put that extra flap in there, but it really makes a difference in the style of the pocket and trouser. You look great in the outfit. Take care of yourself, I know this is stressful time!

Ola amiga
feliz noite guapa
besos
