Exactly one year ago I received a call from Isabel, Paco Peralta's sister, with the saddest news: my friend had suddenly and unexpectedly passed away,... We had been chatting on messenger just a couple of hours before, chatting about sewing and life in general,...

EN: The Parisian Jacket is a pattern by Susan Khalje developed in collaboration with French designer Julien Cristofoli. You can read my introduction to this sewing project here, where you'll find my initial notes on the project, fabrics/notions, etc.

EN: The jacket has a certain vintage vibe and has turned out beautiful. You guys can see more photos of me wearing it on my personal style blog (click here). Most of the following photos were taken after wearing the jacket so the lining may seem a little wrinkled.
---
EN: I cut size 12 (B cup option) and the jacket fits me really well. Note that this is not a loose fitting jacket; you can consult the ease included for each size on the pattern envelope (besides the sizing table with body measurements by sizer, there's also a finished garment measurement table by size).
---
PT: Cortei o tamanho 12 (opção copa B) e a jaqueta assenta-me na perfeição.
EN: I kept the original 3/4 sleeve length, only adding an extra detail: the cuff tabs. The buttons are really special (they were a gift from dear Paco, a few years ago) and I think they deserve the extra highlight.
---

EN: Here's a peek into the sleeve lining, which includes an ease pleat so the wearer can move the arms freely without pulling the outer sleeve:
---
EN: Also helping with the arm's range of movement is the underarm gusset; I decided to top-stitch the seam which joins the gusset to the side panel, for extra strength:
---
EN: The notched collar is beautifully drafted: there's a dart underneath which helps the collar adjust to the neckline and roll perfectly:
---
EN: Here's the in-seam single-welt pocket detail:
---

EN: I bagged the lining the industrial way for getting this kind of facing/lining/hem finishing; much has been said about industrial sewing techniques vs. couture sewing techniques, but my opinion still stands: industrial sewing techniques, if well executed, are worth using; in spite of bagging the lining, all the hems and facings were tacked by hand on the inside; the lining is tacked to the jacket at the shoulders and underarms by thread bridges, exactly as it is usual to do using couture techniques. My jacket has the hang and the feel of a well crafted garment, made with all the care and time it deserves. It has been underlined with silk organza so it barely wrinkles on the outside and it will withstand the test of time
---

EN: There are also beautifully crafted bound buttonholes (read my article about the inside finishing of the buttonholes here):
---
EN: I added a chain hanging loop (I received these chain loops as a gift of a dear friend from NYC):
---
EN: I also added a little extra lining patch pocket on the inside:
---
PT: Também acrescentei um bolso extra no interior:
EN: The center back lining wearing ease pleat:
---
EN: At the moment a matching pair of wide leg pants is on the making (kind of sailor style, buttons on the front :) ) so soon I will have a complete Chanel-inspired suit to show you guys. In the meanwhile I can vouch for the quality of this pattern and highly recommend the video tutorials available on Susan Khalje's Sewing Club on Facebook.

Lovely Tany . When you put the gusset in I notice it has two parts to it . Do you sew the parts together before inserting it . I have never done a gusset but have been watching our Russian friend do them on her Global Pattern work shop. Her gussets are a continuation of the underarm of the sleeve . Have you tried doing it that way at all?
The buttons are perfect . It is good to think of Paco having such a nice time just before he died. Its all we can hope for really ,to be engaged doing what we love right up until the end. It just would have been great if he could have done it for a long time yet .

Thank you all for the lovely comments!
Mem: there are several types of gussets, and this pattern features a triangular type which connects to the side panel at the bottom (that's a inward curve both on the gusset and the side panel), while the other edges of the gusset connect to the front and back sleeves respectively. The sleeve itself remains close fitting and we still keep the ability to raise the arm.
We all miss our friend very dearly... Yesterday, being the 1st anniversary of his passing, was a very sad day to me...

The gusset is such a nice hidden feature. I assume that this is the only way to make this style with the underarm high enough to be neat and comfortable. Love it. I have no really interest in making a completely couture garment and this garment proves that well done factory techniques makes an exquisite jacket much, much more quickly. Brava.
