Continuem a ler o artigo completo!

EN: The Parisian Jacket features 3/4 dolman sleeves with underarm gusset, side panels, a notched collar, single-welt pockets and a front button closure. The pattern consists of just nine pieces (including pieces for the back lining). It comes in a wide size range (4-14 & 16-22 in the same envelope) and includes B, C and D cups for each size. Be aware that it doesn't include instructions, though; the fitting, cutting and construction process is thoroughly covered in a series of video tutorials available in exclusive for Susan's Facebook Couture Club members; there you'll also find personalized support from Susan and the increasingly growing community of couture sewing members. The pattern doesn't include seam or hem allowances either, which is a good thing when you want to thread-trace all the stitching lineas along with the relevant markings.
I picked this lovely wool herringbone tweed from Linton Tweeds (I had it in my stash for a year or so) in shades of grey, beige and blue; members of the Couture Sewing club have access to special conditions when buying from Linton Tweeds, which is a plus.
---
EN: For the lining fabric I also dug deep into my stash, finding this blue steel jacquard lining from the Portuguese online shop of stoffe.de:
---
EN: The entire jacket is underlined with silk organza, as it would be expected from most couture garments; I got mine from Susan's webshop (here) and I highly recommend it because it is extra-wide (54" wide):
---
EN: The buttons are exclusive and vintage; they are a keepsake from Paco Peralta (may he rest in peace) and including them in my sewing projects is my way of keeping his memory alive:
---
EN: I won't be sharing the entire construction process (you'll have to join the Couture Sewing club for that) but I'll show a few details here and there, so you'll know what to expect from this jacket. Below there's the back panel, ready to be sewn, with the organza underlining and all the stitching lines thread-traced; I did some things differently from the video tutorials and one of them was not using the extra wide seam allowances; I did test the pattern and was pretty sure I didn't want to alter anything, so I felt I didn't need them. Besides reinforcing the underarm pivot corner with thin knit fusible, I also reinforced the upper and lower arm seams with thin knit fusible tape to prevent stretching, before basting in the underlining, since these seams are cut on the bias. The hem allowances were also further reinforced with sew-in wigan, applied on top of the underlining and hand-basted along the hem fold line.
---
EN: All the seam allowances were tacked down open, like shown below (in this case it's the sleeve's top seam). This Couture technique prevents fraying and produces the most perfect pressed open seams:
---
EN: This is a time consuming project, with a lot of hand-stitching involved; I don't always use these techniques but some projects do deserve them. If you want to make a Couture level garment, there are some basic principles to follow:
- Pick the best materials (fabrics, notions)
- Test the pattern (measuring, sewing a muslin)
- Pretreat your fabrics (either wash or steam, if the fabric allows it)
- Cut with religious attention to the correct grain
- Focus on reducing bulk
- Press as you go; the pressing should be perfect (sharp seams, but not over-pressed)
- Use the best techniques for the job (they can be vintage or modern, but the end result should e absolutely flawless); practice the technique you feel less comfortable with.
- Lastly but very important: take your time, don't ever rush it.
---

It's a lovely pattern. I've watched all Susan's videos but have not decided on fabric yet. Your tweed looks wonderful!
