Knocking off Miss Fisher's linen hat - Uma réplica do chapéu de linho da Miss Fisher!

EN Summary: Before you get bored to death with my industrial sewing machine ramblings I decided to serve you an appetizer: Miss Fisher's hat (the one matching her linen car coat, bringing to life Marion Boyce's vision of the "Ode to Detectives" ensemble).

EN: The "Ode to Detectives" ensemble was first worn by Phryne in "Murder on the Ballarat Train" (Series 1, Episode 2). The hat (a beautiful pieced crown hat with topstitching details), was made by Mandy Murphy (unfortunately she has passed away) and along with the whole detective ensemble have made quite an impression on me so I decided to make myself a "Miss Fisher inspired Detective ensemble" too.
---

EN: As a base pattern I used the Sybil hat pattern, available for instant download on Etsy (here); I had to alter it significantly to become similar to Miss Fisher's hat because this pattern is for a cloche with an uneven brim width all around (narrower on the back and wider on the sides), yet it comes with several crown sizes and the brim is easily modified. I selected size 23" according to my head measurement but made the crown pieces slightly longer (for a higher crown), along with slightly wider on top. I also altered the brim to be wider and constant width all around.
---
EN: I used 100% linen fabric for making this hat; each piece of the hat was interfaced with strong woven fusible before being stitched. The instructions included with the pattern are OK in my opinion. The crown was stitched first and top-stitched as the original hat, then the brim was sewn, and attached to the crown; the joining seam was top-stitched with the seam allowances towards the crown and the entire brim was decorated with parallel rows of top-stitching all around. Lastly the inner crown lining was slip-stitched to the joining seam, covering all raw edges.
---

EN: I think the hat turned out very similar to Miss Fisher's and I am very happy with it! I also made a matching coat, of course, but I'll show it to you later! Stay tuned!

mem: Thanks for your lovely comment! Yes I've heard about the new movie "Miss Fisher & The Crypt of Tears" and also about a spin off series about Miss Fisher's niece in the 60s who is also becoming a lady detective! I can't wait for both and I envy you so much for living in Melbourne!!!
