My take on the Heather bra (modified Pin-up Girls classic, using BWear.se supplies)

EN: Summary: In partnership with BWear.se, my next bra was made using Bra Maker's Pin-up Classic full band bra pattern as a base; the Heather bra is inspired by a RTW bra worn by Heather, Beverly Jonhson's live model in her first Craftsy class, "Sewing Bras, Construction & Fit" (if you haven't enrolled yet, there's a big sale going on this weekend and all classes are priced under $20!). Continuem a ler o artigo completo.

EN: In her 3rd Craftsy class "Sewing Bras, Foam, Lace & Beyond" Beverly explains how to knock off the Harriet bra using the classic bra pattern as a starting point; this pattern must have been alter to fit your personal shape and measurements and in my case I had already fitted the 38C size to my body by shortening the back band by 1", making a round cup adjustment and having the neckline widened by 3/8".
---
EN: The first step is altering the diagonal seam line of the classic bra into a horizontal seam line; If you haven't take Beverly's classes, you can still learn how to do this pattern manipulation on her blog (click here).
---
EN: As additional steps I've also split the lower cup in two (rounding its shape ever so slightly and adding SAs), gaining some cup volume under the bust and altered the band for using the lace scalloped edge (done by removing the SAs and straitening the bottom edge; a process involving splitting the band in two and manipulating it pivoting at the base notch). As consequence, the band has a center seam at the bridge and the edge of the pattern must be aligned at the LoPoL of lace, taking care that the lace repeat matches the center seam line. Since my band elastic was wider than what the pattern was drafted for (3/4" and not 1/2"), I added an extra 1/4" to the front and back band.
---
EN: BWear's lovely black lace (here) was lined with white sheer cup lining (here). I also used a pair of long underwires (here), black powernet (here), a red findings kit (here) and two extra red bows (here). I opted for using black underwire channeling instead of the red (bought separately here). The lace was placed on the upper cup as explained in another of Beverly's article (click here).
---
EN: I started the construction by sewing the cups together, stitching the front to the back bands, applying the bottom band elastic and stitching the cups to the frame; once these steps were completed I was able to confirm that I was on the right track: the straight edge lace on the upper cup really delivers a flattering and beautiful curved edge effect, pure bra magic, as Beverly says!
---
EN: I am really happy with the choice of bright red for the elastics, so fun! I also love the sheerness of the seer white cup lining combined with the texture of the black lace overlay. The bra is slightly see-through without being too revealing, it's well supportive and it molds the breasts beautifully.
---

EN: The scooped back is one of my favorites and works really well for me.
---

EN: Here's how the bra looks on me because there's no way you can see how flattering this bra really is unless it is being worn:
---
EN: I hope you have enjoyed yet another bra-making journey as much as I did! I still have another bra to make, yet I haven't decided the model yet. The lace I'll be using is the same as the black of the Heather bra, only in salmon pink, and I also have black findings and lining to match.
Thank you all for dropping by and see you next time!
---
