Denim Couture Jacket: Handmade pockets and flaps - Bolsos e paletas costurados à mão

EN Summary: This is the last post before I show you the completed jacket (still need to finish all the pocket flaps, handworked buttonholes, fell-stitching them to the jacket, sew in the hem chain and the label; I will probably get it done by this weekend but until then I wanted to show you how I sew the pockets and flaps. Keep reading for more!

EN: With this fabric I decided to reinforce the pockets and the flaps to give them some structure; for that purpose I used muslin as backing (the muslin has no SAs). As you can see, the fabric pocket has been outlined with basting thread and that makes the job much easier. I place the muslin on the wrong side of the pocket, notch the pocket allowances at the rounded corners, turn the allowances in, baste them in place, give it a good press and catch-stitch them to the muslin underneath (the bastings can be removed after catch-stitching):

EN: Then I place the pocket lining on top (includes SAs) covering all these sewing details and pin it in place, favoring the pocket side; I carefully turn the lining allowances inside, as I pi around the pocket to keep then secured:
---
EN: Lastly I fell-stitch the lining to the pocket; there are two of these patch pockets placed bellow the jacket's waist, including the flaps; at the jacket's chest there will be just the flaps (no pockets).
---
EN: The flaps are made using the same process but their top allowance is turned in and basted in place after the trim/fringe is fell-stitched around the flap; then the lining is fell-stitched covering all the sewing details as done before:
---
EN: Obviously the trim/fringe has to be notched at the corners. I find that sewing it by hand to the flaps edge gives me more control over the flap final shape, but it could also be sewn by machine.

Hope you guys enjoyed this journey so far and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
