Fotos da construção da saia – Pictures on the skirt’s construction

In spite of the constant lack of time, I would like to report on the skirt’s construction, since I managed to finish it during the weekend.

As I stated before, I had a few alterations done to the skirt’s original pattern/design, with the purpose of making it somehow wearable at my office’s environment; one of the alterations was going up one size so the skirt would sit lower than the natural waist. Another alteration was shortening the side slit by 4 inches and finally I also changed the horizontal side pleats: their size was reduced by half and instead of positioning two overlapped pleats, I spaced them a little:
Here’s the wrong side, where you can see the dart that shapes the hip on the side:
Here you can see the side tab at a stage where the outer shaped waist was already attached to the skirt:
Another detail: when I attached the inner waistband to the outer waistband (note that the lining was already stitched to the inner waistband), I reinforced the seam by applying cotton tape to it. This is very necessary since the waistband is cut on a single rounded piece for the back and front; hence most of the edges are cut on the bias. If I didn’t reinforce this seam, the skirt’s hem would most likely “grow” bigger on me and be distorted.
Yet another interesting detail was adding two lead weights, previously placed inside lining bags, on the inside of the hem at the two edge corners at the end of the slit. The small lining bags were stitched to the hem allowance, on the inside of the hem, providing a better “hang” on the side:

And that’s all for today! I will show you the finished skirt later (I know, I’m such a teaser!!)

Interesting detail - about the lead weights.

Nice technique for the weight. Cute little bag and I think it will just perfect the hang of the skirt at the split.

Your skirt looks great so far, I am glad you found my suggestion to use the covered lead weights useful.

Els: your tips and suggestions are always welcome and useful to me. This one was no exception and I'm quite happy with the outcome.
