Before cutting my test garment (the inexpensive cotton fabric that I'll be using is being washed as I write this article), I would like you to take a look at a few interesting details on the pattern.
The front panels are completely asymmetrical: the right front is on the left and the left front is on the right so this jacket will close from left to right, as opposite to what’s normally done.

The coat is hemmed using a hem facing instead of turning up the hem allowances; I'm also showing the back and side panels in the picture:

So that you can judge on the complexity of this pattern concerning the front facings, take a look at the different right and left front facings (the left front facing is composed by two pieces, the outer should be cut using the shiny side of the fabric to create a contrast); on both sides you can see the lining front side panels. One of the unusual characteristics of this pattern (comparing to the ordinary BWOF patterns) is that there are different pattern pieces for the lining; only the sleeve patterns are used to cut both the fashion fabric and the lining (taking out the hem and slit facings width to cut the lining):

In the next two pictures you can see how the hem facing connects to both front facings and to the lining side panel (you are seeing a pattern specially designed for the lining side panel because the fashion fabric fronts connect directly to the back side panels, so there is no front side panel):

These patterns are designed for the lining only (side front, side back and center back):

Instead of cutting the back lining on the fold leaving an extra width to make the back fold, the back is cut with a central seam; there are stitching lines on the neck and near the hem indicating where the lining should be topstitched (the right sides facing each other) to create the fold; the extra width to guarantee the extra ease for comfort is comprised in the pattern already:
The sleeves include both the slit facings and the hem facings:

The pattern also includes two pieces for shoulder reinforcement (one for the front and the other for the back), that should be cut on the same thick interfacing that will be used also for the belt:
As for the skirt, it's cut as a single piece, besides the shaped waistband (in the picture the skirt pattern is folded in two, with the front facing up):
There's an interesting detail on the opposite side to the slit; there is a dart to shape the hip and two horizontal pleats that pull the skirt up creating the gathering at the side that will be supported by a side buttoned tab:

WOW Tany! I am so excited to see you work on this. I think this may be the most interesting/challenging thing I've seen you make besides the Mrs. Stylebook Jacket. I think you will do a fab job!
Better yet, I know you'll do a great job! LOL
What an interesting design! I'm frightened just reading about it! If anyone can do it, you can. I can't wait to read about your progress.
o.k. this would be the point where I would gave up.... just copying all these patterns just for the lining would drive me nuts.
Wow, so many pattern pieces! I hope the muslin fits well so you don't have to make too many changes.
Paco.
Wow! I've never seen anything like this. So interesting and very up to your skills! Another wonderful treat to look forward to :) Many big hugs et gros bisous, ma chère, chère Tany!
Grande desafio!

Thanks for showing the pieces - they are very interesting! I'm always interested in unusual designs and am always trying to figure out how the pattern piece look to produce a particular feature on a garment.
This will be one spectacular suit!
Just read your last two posts. And I agree with everyone else, this is a spectacular jacket, and I'm very sure you will look great in it. Why doubt that?
Wish you luck with your muslin, and look forward to all your steps in making this one. Thanks for sharing.
You said this pattern is "interesting", and I definitely agree, but I think I would also have to say it's "challenging". But I am sure you will do a knock out job with it as you have with all the others. I look forward to seeing the final product.
Its kinda like a giant 3D jigsaw puzzle for big (as in grown up) girls-amazing. I got a little light headed-its a bit scary- reading through the details & following the pictures-it does look like it could be lots of fun though!
A Verdade é o caminho, o Bem é a ação, o Belo é o sentimento. Esta é a prática para ser Feliz. Usem-na, feliz Ano Novo 2008!!
Bjuss...

Talk about totally intricate pieces.. I'm looking forward to seeing how it comes together.

Ana
What a challenge but I'm confident you will make a great job.
Beijos e boa sorte!
