Uma coisa boa dos projectos feitos de tecidos de malha é que são rápidos de fazer; são o tipo de projectos que gosto de chamar de “satisfação instantânea”. É o caso deste vestido, também muito fácil e rápido de fazer (e que já estava começado há alguns dias, à espera de tempo para o terminar):

O modelo original veio na Burda de Abril de 2008, modelo 116; podem ver o modelo original aqui.

O tecido é jersey macio, da mesma qualidade da do vestido anterior (comprei os tecidos na mesma altura). Usei a máquina de coser (ponto elástico e para as bainhas ponto normal com agulhas gémeas) e a corta-e-cose para os remates. Usei linhas de poliéster na máquina normal e na agulha da corta-e-cose; nas lançadeiras usei fio de nylon (uma linha fofa e elástica). Seguem-se alguns pormenores:

A good thing about projects using knits is that they are quick to make, most of them, so it’s instant gratification, and always a valuable and practical wardrobe addition. This is the case for this dress (I started this dress a few days ago but I didn’t have the time to finish it until yesterday):

The original model was featured in the April2008 BWOF, it’s the dress model 116. You can see it here:

The fabric used is soft jersey, of the same quality as the jersey used for my previous dress (I bought them at the same time). I used the sewing machine (set to the elastic stitch and straight stitch using a twin needle) and the serger for finishing the raw edges. I used polyester thread on the needles and woolly nylon on the loopers. A few details will follow:

The back neckline was finished with self fabric folded strips:

Algo para o quarto de um bebé – Something for a baby’s room

Pois é, embora seja raro, também costuro coisas que não sejam roupa! Foi o caso desta cobertura para fraldário que fiz para o Henrique, o futuro filho da Mónica e do Luís!

A foto mostra a cobertura no lugar onde vai ficar, um baú que foi pintado pelos pais do Henrique e que vai servir de base ao fraldário. A Mónica e o Luís explicaram-me exactamente o que pretendiam:

Um pano rectangular com bolsos grandes nos extremos para de uma forma prática terem tudo o necessário à mão. Depois de receber os tecidos pus mãos à obra e parece que os papás ficaram satisfeitos com o resultado (ver aqui).

Bem a propósito, na madrugada de ontem nasceu a Francisca, a filha de dois dos meus melhores amigos, e de quem serei Madrinha! Por este motivo, e porque quero acompanhar este bebé nos seus primeiros dias, poderei não ter tanto tempo para escrever aqui e para vos visitar… Peço desculpa por este facto, retomarei as minhas actividades tão cedo quanto possível! Beijinhos a todos(as)!

It’s a fact, I also sew non apparel items, thought it’s very rare! This is the case of this cover for a diaper table (I'm not sure of this is the correct english name), which I made for Henrique, the future son of Monica and Luis:

The picture shows the cover on its due place, over a trunk that was decorated by the proud parents. Monica and Luis explained to me exactly what they wanted:

A rectangular cover made to measure and with two large pockets on each side to provide everything needed at hand. After receiving the fabrics by mail, I started on the cover and it looks like the parents where happy with the result (click here)!

Talking about babies, yesterday Francisca was born! Francisca is the daughter of my two best friends and I’ll be her Godmother! For this reason and because I’ll be busy assisting the couple as necessary on the baby’s first days, there will be less time for updating this blog and for visiting my friend’s blogs. I ask for your indulgence on this and I promise to resume Couture et Tricot’s activities as soon as I can! See you!

Um vestido simples, inspirado em Gucci - A simple dress inspired by Gucci

A minha inspiração (em termos de palete de cores) veio da colecção de pronto-a-vestir Primavera 2008 de Gucci, que se baseia nas cores branco, negro e amarelo. O modelo original pode ser visto aqui (site da Burdamode).

Como devem ter reparado, fiz algumas modificações ao modelo original. Tudo começou quando comprei o tecido, apenas 2m (1,5m de largo), pensando que seria mais do que suficiente. No entanto este modelo leva cerca de 3,5m! Quando voltei à loja no dia seguinte o tecido (jersei muito macio de alta qualidade com um cair muito sedoso) já tinha sido todo vendido. Então, para que 2m chegassem, em vez de fazer a saia com trespasse, cortei uma frente na dobra do tecido usando o molde dado apenas até à linha do meio (eliminando o extra do trespasse: a frente original teria dois panos que se cruzam no meio). Como os trespasses foram cortados noutro tecido, 2m chegaram mesmo à justa para o vestido com estas modificações.

Nota: as costas da parte superior também têm uma costura central porque não havia comprimento suficiente para as cortar na dobra.

Outra modificação foi o cós, que deixa de ser aberto na frente e de ter as tiras a sair na frente (como este top que usa o mesmo molde). Em vez disso usei o molde das tiras cortado ao meio no sentido do comprimento para cortar umas tiras de metade da largura original e cortei-as no tecido do vestido, em vez de preto. Estas tiras foram colocadas nas costuras do cós exterior de lado (o cós agora é constituído por 4 partes: frente exterior e interior, costas exterior e interior, com costuras no lado):

Para a bainha usei o ponto “coverstitch” estreito da minha corta-e-cose:

Conclusão: Creio que o vestido ficou muito bem, tem um cair magnífico e é muito macio contra o corpo. As cores, como sabem, estão bem na moda esta estação. É um vestido fácil de fazer e com um tecido bonito fica muito valorizado.

No próximo post vou mostrar algo que fiz para oferecer a uma futura mamã, que não tem nada a ver com roupa mas com decoração de quartos de bebé! Fiquem bem!

My inspiration (the color palette in this case) came from the Gucci Spring2008 RTW collection, which is based on the colors white, black and yellow. The original model can be seen here (Burdamode website).

As you may have noticed, my dress is a little different. I made some alterations due to fabric shortage. When I saw this fabric I thought 2m would be enough for the dress; when I got home and consulted the magazine, I saw that 3,5m were required for this model! The next day I ran into the fabric shop only to find out that this fabric (a very soft and smooth jersey that drapes beautifully) was sold out (no wonder…)! So I had to improvise; I was able to eliminate the crossed over fronts of the skirt by cutting a single front on the fold, using the pattern’s center front line, so I could spare one skirt length (the two fronts occupy the fabric’s width each). The contrasts and waistband were to be cut on black jersey so that saved me some more fabric. The 2m were barely enough but I made it!

ETA: There's also a back seam on the bodice because there wasn't enough fabric lenght to cut it on the fold, but it's barely noticeable.

Another thing I did differently is the waistband, that doesn’t break at the center front to cross over and take the ties (as seen in this model, which uses the same pattern). Instead I cut four waistband pieces: an outer front, an outer back, an inner front and an inner back, all with side seams. For the ties I used half the pattern (lengthwise) to make them narrower, cut them on the printed jersey and attached them to the side seams instead:

Conclusion: I believe this dress turned out quite well, it has a wonderful drape and it feels so soft against the skin. The colors are very trendy right now. I think it’s a fairly easy dress to make and also very simple but it can be enhanced by a nice fabric

A inspiração dos tecidos – Fabric musings

Olá amigas e amigos! Hoje vou fazer uma pausa e falar um pouco sobre os meus planos, tecidos, inspirações, materiais, etc. Não sei como é que funciona com vocês, mas quando vou às lojas de tecidos, ou vou à procura de algo específico ou normalmente um tecido chama-me à atenção quando o associo a algum modelo que já tenha visto. Leio muitas revistas de moda (Cadena, Carnet, Hola, Tessuti, etc), além das Burdas, das Patrones e tudo o que conseguir agarrar, e alguns modelos ficam simplesmente “impressos” no meu cérebro, por uma característica qualquer invulgar que lhes associo. Então algumas das minhas compras de tecidos baseiam-se um pouco nestes “flashes” que me atravessam o cérebro, tipo imagens de um estilo ou um determinado modelo.

Por exemplo quando vi este tecido, lembrei-me logo da colecção de Gucci para esta temporada (também em destaque neste post da Ana Carina) e associei o tecido de imediato a um vestido comprido. O modelo, pela possibilidade de aplicação de contrastes em negro foi logo associado:

Outros tecidos que me chamaram a atenção da mesma forma foram este cetim estampado:

Que associei de imediato a este vestido da Burda de Maio (o único senão é que o tecido usado no modelo original é descrito como tendo alguma elasticidade, enquanto este não tem):

E este algodão com elastano amarelo que me fez lembrar este vestido, desta um estilo mais desportivo e prático, também da mesma revista:


O amarelo nunca foi uma cor que me favorecesse muito, mas se estiver bronzeada fica-me muito bem; além disso é uma tendência forte nesta estação.

Quando vi o vestido Chado Ralph Rucci que saiu nos moldes Vogue, pensei logo em linho para o confeccionar, por ser um tecido que adoro para o verão. Da palete de cores disponíveis agradou-me de imediato o azul-turquesa, pois lembro-me de um vestido de linho nesta cor que usei até à exaustão uns anos atrás e que toda a gente dizia que me favorecia imenso:

Este é um projecto trabalhoso e que tem de ser bem planeado, incluindo os materiais a usar e a prática das técnicas mais difíceis. Já tenho os materiais, embora só pense começar este vestido quando tiver um pouco mais de paz de espírito (alguns problemas particulares têm-me impedido de estar no meu melhor). As linhas (100% algodão e torçal acetinado para os pespontos à mão):

Este tecido recebi-o do Paco e é organza de algodão (um tecido com tear solto, um pouco rígido). Juntamente com a organza de algodão e outras coisas vieram este novo tipo de chumaços raglan mais ligeiros:


Este meu querido amigo, além de me enviar uma caixa cheia de materiais, ainda se ofereceu para me enviar organza de seda azul-turquesa, de um tom muito parecido com o do linho que comprei; inicialmente seria usada em vez da organza de algodão para o forro de empastar, mas entretanto lembrei-me deste modelo de uma das minhas Burdas Internacionais:

Uma palavra de grande apreço para o Paco, que tem sido um grande amigo, de uma generosidade sem limites, tanto para partilhar aquilo que faz como para me ajudar a conseguir um nível superior nos meus trabalhos. Nunca esquecerei os gestos de grande amizade que recebo dele e de outras amigas que tenho o privilégio de conhecer através dos blogs.

Voltando aos tecidos, quando comprei o linho azul-turquesa (comprei um pouco a mais), não resisti a comprar outra cor, uma espécie de verde acastanhado que na minha opinião conjuga muito bem com tons fortes, inclusivamente com o azul-turquesa:

Ainda não sei o que vou fazer com este linho, embora imagine uma jaqueta estilo retro, com grandes botões forrados, umas calças largas e quem sabe um vestido tubo simples…

E pronto, espero que se encontrem todos bem! Muito em breve vou mostrar o vestido inspirado em Gucci, que só falta pregar a saia e fazer a bainha!

Hi friends! Today I will make a break from showing you my completed garments and will talk about my fabric/model musings and future plans. I don’t know if it works the same with you, but when I’m fabric shopping either I walk into the shop with a very specific fabric in mind or some fabrics have the power of speaking to me, giving me these “flashes” of models that I’ve already seen somewhere and that were engraved in my mind for some special characteristic or detail. I read a lot of fashion magazines (Cadena, Carnet, Hola special fashion editions, Lecturas special fashion editions, Tessuti, etc.), besides the BWOFs, Patrones and pretty much everything I can get my hands on, and some models kind of leave a mental impression that will be pulled up by the sight of some fabrics. Most of my fabric purchases are consequence of these “flashes” that come to mind.

For example, when I saw this fabric I immediately recalled Gucci’s spring/summer collection (also see this highlight at Ana Carinas’s blog) and I pictured this fabric as a long dress. The model came to mind afterwards, because of the possibility of adding black contrasts:

Among other fabrics that spoke to me at the fabric shop was this printed satin:

And this dress featured in the May BWOF came into mind (the only “but” is the fact that this fabric doesn’t stretch, while the original fabric is described as stretch satin):

This yellow fabric (cotton/elastan blend) also reminded me of this dress, for a more casual look (also in the May BWOF):


Yellow is not a color that favors me but I think I’ll look good in this dress providing that I have a nice tan, lol. Besides it’s a strong trend for this season.

When I first saw the Chado Ralph Rucci dress featured by Vogue Patterns, my first thought was using linen for making it, because it’s an old time favorite of mine for summer clothes. From the available color palette at the fabric shop, I was attracted by the turquoise, because I remembered having a turquoise sheath dress that I wore to exhaustion and that everybody told me I looked so great in:

This is a very time consuming project and it requires some thought and planning ahead, and also the gathering of all the notions and materials before starting on the dress. I already have all the materials/notions, though I’m not planning of starting on this project anytime soon (I’ve been going through some problems that are stealing my peace of mind, and this project requires time and peace of mind). Here you see the 100% cotton thread and the buttonhole twist for topstitching:

I received this fabric from Paco; it’s cotton organza (loose woven with a crisp feel). Together with the organza Paco sent me a box full of materials, including this type of raglan shoulder pads:


This very dear friend of mine, besides everything he has done for me already, also offered to send me a few yards of turquoise silk organza, that was initially intended for the underlining of the dress; but once more this “flash” came into mind and I remembered this model from one of my Burda International magazines:

I want to say some words of deep gratitude to Paco, who has been marvelous, a great friend with unlimited generosity, not only sharing his great sewing expertise but also helping me and others to achieve superior quality on their made garments. I will never forget this, and I include him among the extraordinary people that I have the pleasure of meeting through blogging! A big hug to all of you out there!

Back to the fabric musings, when I bought the turquoise linen (I bought a little more than needed), I also couldn’t resist to this other color of linen (it’s something in between brown, olive green and grey) because I think it will look great coordinated with the turquoise and other bright colors:

I still haven’t decided what to make with this fabric but I have some idea: a retro-style wide jacket with big covered buttons, a pair of wide trousers and maybe a simple sheath dress…
