EN: The pattern is model 901 from the 1/91 Burda International magazine (cut size 38/40 but could have used the smaller size; the coat is quite roomy). I had made the dress shown below back in the 90's (it was light blue, very beautiful) and in the present days I felt that the coat would be a perfect match for this unusual heat-bonded quilted fabric.

PT: O molde é o modelo 901 da revista Burda Internacional 1/91 (tracei o tamanho 38/40 mas poderia ter usado o tamanho menor porque o casaco é bem amplo). Nos anos 90 já tinha feito o vestido num tecido azul-bébe (ficou lindíssimo) e no tempo presente achei que o modelo do casaco seria ideal para este invulgar tecido com efeito acolchoado.
EN: It's a minimalistic model; the details include a single button closure with a bound-buttonhole, a hood, slanted double-welt pockets (I opted for single-welt pockets instead) and unusual sleeve design with turn-up cuffs. The coat is fully lined and on the original model the hood lining and cuff facings are cut from contrasting taffeta fabric. I used good quality twill lining to line the entire coat, hood and sleeve cuff turn-ups.

PT: É um modelo um tanto minimalista; os detalhes resumem-se a apenas um botão com casa avivada, capucho, bolsos avivados com duas pestanas (no meu fiz com uma pestana apenas) e mangas com forma original e punhos de virar. O casaco é completamente forrado e na versão original o capucho e a parte visível dos punhos é cortada de tafetá de cor contrastante. Na minha versão usei forro "twill" de boa qualidade para forrar o casaco, nos punhos e para o forro do capucho.
EN: The pattern is very simple. Back in the early 90s the patterns were not printed in their graded form (all consecutive sizes aligned). The pattern sheets looked a lot more confusing back then. In this case only the hood pattern was graded. There are no pattern pieces for the lining either, we need to figure it out from the provided pattern pieces. Hem or seam allowances are not included but in this specific pattern, there is a wide hem allowance with tiny darts. The space defined between the hem line and the other line above it can be used as a separate pattern to cut interfacing. The original model was made of poplin and to keep the hem in shape and away from the body, batting is used to shape and reinforce the hem. Due to the nature of my fabric, I didn't need the batting or any type of interfacing. The top line can also be used to cut the lining, adding a little extra length, enough to form a horizontal hem pleat.
The sleeve pattern includes a line that can be used to make the pattern for the sleeve cuff facing and the sleeve lining (once again, adding a little extra length to form an ease pleat).

PT: O molde é muito simples. Antigamente os moldes da Burda não vinham "gradados" ou seja com os diferentes tamanhos todos alinhados. As folhas de moldes pareciam bem mais confusas! Neste molde em particular, só o molde do capucho estava gradado. Também não costuma haver partes do molde específicas para o forro, temos de ser nós a calculá-las a partir das partes do molde fornecidas. As margens de costura e bainhas também não são incluídas, mas neste caso incluem a bainha larga do casaco, que leva pinças para ajustar o redondo. acima da linha da bainha tem outra linha paralela a esta e o espaço entre a linha da bainha e esta outra linha define o molde para cortar entretela para a bainha. O modelo original é feito de tecido popelina, e para manter a bainha armada, necessita de entretela de acolchoar. No meu caso não precisei de usar essa entretela porque o meu tecido já é acolchoado e fica armado. A linha de cima pode ser usada para cortar o forro do casaco, tendo o cuidado de dar um extra na bainha para formar uma pequena prega horizontal.
O molde da manga inclui uma linha que define o molde da vista do punho (que fica visível quando o punho fica virado para fora) e a parte restante pode ser usada para cortar o forro da manga, uma vez mais com um pouco mais de bainha para formar uma pequena prega horizontal.
EN: Let's look at some of the details on the finished coat: here's the button which is ball shaped and quite large; to avoid making a longer buttonhole which would have crossed the front facing to the lining, I made it wider and added space between the welts.

EN: Here's the bottom corner and the hem with the shaping darts; since I didn't dare using the pressing iron on this fabric, I top-stitched the edges and wherever I needed extra "taming" of the fabric.

PT: Aqui têm o canto inferior e a bainha com as pinças a dar a forma; uma vez que não me atrevia a usar o ferro de passar neste tecido, valeram-me os pespontos decorativos para conseguir umas orlas apresentáveis.
EN: Top-stitching this type of fabrics can be daunting; the edges will pull and shift forming draglines, specially when basting is not an option due to the permanent piercing of this fabric. One possible solution is using a teflon presser foot but even so, without the basting the results are far from perfect. I used a trick that I've learned from Atelier Saison (The Japanese Sewing Factory on YouTube), which is using packaging straps: they work both as a guide and as stabilizer keeping the edge from shifting.

PT: Pespontar este tipo de tecidos pode ser bastante desafiante; as orlas repuxam e torcem porque o tecido escorrega no calcador (e ainda mais não podendo usar alinhavos para segurar, pois a agulha marca o tecido)e o efeito é um torcido muito inestético. Usar um calcador de teflon é uma opção, mas mesmo assim os resultados não são perfeitos com este tecido. Usei então um truque que aprendi nos vídeos do canal YouTube Atelier Saison, que é usar aquelas fitas de embalar: tanto servem de guia como mantém o tecido no lugar sem torcer, pois oferecem alguma tração no calcador.
