Next up: The Couture Denim Jacket – Já a seguir: a Jaqueta Alta-Costura de Ganga

EN Summary: Introducing my next sewing project, the initial pattern alterations and some of the materials gathered so far. Continue reading to find out more!

EN: For this next Chanel inspired jacket I wanted to use this novelty denim fabric from a local fabric store (O Manequim). I liked this free pdf pattern available on Marfy.it but I don’t like its one piece sleeves and the back without princess seams.

---

EN: So I thought why not use Susan Khalje’s pattern which I had fitted so carefully and incorporate the Marfy’s main design lines into it (basically, the collar and the pockets)?

---

EN: This is Marfy’s collar pattern (it’s kind of a shawl collar design, but with a shirt collar shape); the jacket has a front facing incorporating the upper-collar:

---

EN: As a starting point, for drafting it over Susan’s pattern I measured Susan’s pattern back collar line with the round measurement tool (a very useful gift from a friend), so the back collar has this exact measurement and kept the overall proportions of the design as you can see in the next photo:

---

EN: For the pockets and flaps I can keep Marfy’s pattern, choosing the size according to the proportions that will fit better on my jacket:

---

EN: I still haven’t decided id I will quilt this jacket or not, it will depend on the cutting layout; this jacket will have a front facing cut like the center front panel or, if the fabric isn’t enough for this, it will have a partial facing incorporating little more than the upper collar. The sleeves will be the same length as the sleeves of the Little Black Jacket, but I decided to narrow them a bit adjusting the seam that joins the inner sleeve panel to the front sleeve panel. I also narrowed the vent facing extension to its original width; I don’t need it as wide because I won’t be using a wide trim this time. I also picked the buttons and bought the silk buttonhole twist for the buttonholes:

---

EN: I have cut the muslin (I need it to check the collar and how the slightly narrower sleeves will look), and I am about to trace it using waxed paper and a tracing weel. Thank you all for following along!

---

The fabric is beautiful. Good idea to use just the parts of the Marfy pattern that you like.

I just love your plan to combine the two patterns. Can't wait to see the result.

Fantastic. I have this Marfy pattern all cut out but then lost motivation so I'll be so interested in following you on this one.

OMG, where did you buy those buttons, Tany? I need them :)

This will be stunning. I didn't realise your fabric was denim. It isn't the fabric I nearly bought which was a silk tweed.

I made the Marfy jacket, but also did not like the one piece sleeve, so I changed that to a two piece one. I a curious how your jacket will look! If you quilt the jacket, will the quilting be seen on the outside? Your denim does not look as if the stitching would be not visible.
