Parisienne Chic

Português
English (uncheck the other box and check this one)

I named this sweater like this because it reminds me of Coco Chanel and Paris… The numbness on my arms started when I was knitting this sweater, perhaps because the needles were so big and heavy and my wrists were often sour. By the way, the numbness doesn’t affect me during the day, only during my sleep at night; these problems are often caused by repetitive manual work and are degenerative so I must take some care and take it easy, avoiding long periods of time sewing or knitting.

Original model: Phildar No.480 Magazine (Tendances Hiver 07/08) model 2: semi-fitted chunky sweater with separate wide collar and bell sleeves:

Materials: 20 skeins of Rosarios4 Capuccino in black and ivory (double strand) and US15 needles (both needles and yarn are different from the specifications so I had to alter the gauge)

Modifications: The neckline of the original sweater was raw but I decided to knit a ribbing in black. I also added small shoulder pads to achieve a pointed effect that is so fashionable these days.

This is the separate collar that can be worn with the sweater or alone (I wore it with a black turtleneck and a black coat the other day):

Finally and for a truly “Parisienne” style, I crocheted this beret based on these instructions, adding a crocheted pansy flower on the side:

Conclusion: It’s a very easy and quick model but I think it's very cute. Beware of your writs if you knit using large needles! I didn’t have circular needles so used long needles, which are heavy and hurt if knitting for long periods of time.

My dear friends, 2009 is almost over now and I must say goodbye for a few months. I hope you all enjoyed my “offline projects”; in spite of the limited time I did managed to do some sewing during the weekends and vacation time (a skirt suit and two coats in 4 months is not bad at all). I wish you all a Happy New Year and all your wishes fulfilled! Be Happy!

Wow! I love all these pieces. You are always great at making sets of garments that can be worn together or paired with other things. Happy New Year to you as well. I will miss your creative inspiration in the months to come.

Happy New Years and Best wishes in the coming year. Always enjoy your work, and look forward to when you can share more.
Very sad to hear about your symptoms keeping you from what you love to do, I get carpal tunnel syndrome when I am pregnant and it is scary. The best thing I ever did was to sleep with a wrist brace/bandage on. I found the numbness to be less that way.
Keeping you in our thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery!

Oh wow... love all the latest stuff, but especially the jumper. I'm sorry to hear about your problem with the numbness and hope that it will rectify itself and you recover soon.
I wish you and your family a Happy New Year!

I have loved every single item that you have made. Your workmanship is impeccable and your taste is amazing. I suffered a permanent, dominant hand injury a few years ago. Do not lose hope about your hands. With the help of surgery and a hand therapist (specialized occupational therapist), I learned to do many things differently--it's a new normal.

Happy New Years! I love everything you make. That sweater is TDF! And love the infinity scarf to match. Please pay careful attention to your body and the signs it sends you. If your wrists hurt, take the time off and let them heal. Please.

Happy New Year to you, too. It must be almost the New Year in Portugal. I was thinking about you and your new home the other day, and the next day you posted your first new post. I see you have been making a few wonderful things, even with your limited time! Good for you, it must help you keep your sanity.

My Goodness! And you knit too! You are one talented lady! I love the sweater and beret. I experience pain in my thumbs and fingers fromm overuse so I know how you feel when you say you have numbness in your wrists. Take care that they don't get worse. you are much too young to have such problems.
Happy New Year Tany. i was so glad to see a new post from you. I've missed you.

Really cute sweater and happy new year to you!

(Just one word... if your problems mostly happen at night... I solved some problems I had years ago by buying an new mattress. No more aching back for 20 years as long as I don't sleep in hotel beds. So... chaning your bedding, the height or material of your pillow or whatever can smometimes have amazing results!)

Adorei a camisola!

Muitos beijinhos

You are such an inspiration! I've missed your posts and was delighted to see photos of your recent projects. I have had problems with carpal tunnel syndrome, too. So far, I have avoided surgery with a regimen of stretching exercises. Thank your for your wonderful blog and best wishes to you.

Hello , Coco would have been impressed .
What you need to do is to use a splint on your hands only at night which will keep your wrists straight. This because when the wrist is straight there is more opportunity for any fluid which build up to escape and so not compress the nerves in the carple tunnle and cause the numbness you are feeling at night.
I am a physiotherapist here in Australia and I see people like you at least every week . This method is really helpful and also makes sure that you are not causing more damage to your median nerve. You can see the splint I am talking about at SPORTSTEK Australia and look for "FLEXION CONTROL SPLINT" They sell mail order.

Seja como for ficou linda! Adorei a Boina!

Bjs e boas "mudanças"

Have you tried knitting with Brysprun needles or wood needles. They are plastic and help keep the hands warm and from becoming tired. I can only knit with the two materials as my wrists and arms hurt if I use the metal one.

Mardel said...

Large needles and heavy yarn are always hard on my hands and wrists (I have arthritis). But you are getting so many good suggestions and support.

And the sweater and hat are beautiful by the way.

Oh voltaste e so agora vi.
