Imitação do “Cozy” de DKNY – DKNY’s Cozy knockoff

Português
English (uncheck the other box and check this one)

I was first interested in the Cozy when I read this article at The Princess Seam blog; since then I knew I had to make a Cozy too! Sometime later Sigrid did a wonderful job modifying a basic knit top pattern into the Cozy pattern (you can read about the process and see a lot of fabulous pictures of the finished Cozy here). I was just “cooking” the idea of making one when I saw the new Simplicity patterns: the S2603 mimics this same style! That’s when I decided to order this pattern from the Simplicity’s international website and a few days later I had it in my mail box!

Description: Misses’ knit top and cardi-wrap with front variations (there’s a shorter version and optional bell cuffs).

I made view A (size M). The front pattern (#1) is a little different from the pattern that Sigrid traced, but I believe it creates a similar effect:

Alterations/Details:

A distinctive detail of this pattern is the elastic at the CB collar seam:

I thought the collar would look better if I turned it in and tacked the outer edge to the back neckline seam, as shown in the next picture, avoiding the exposure of the wrong side of the CB elasticized seam:

Another thing I decided to do differently was the finishing of the outer front and hem edges; since this knit doesn’t run, I left the raw edges unfinished:

It’s important to note that the edges are perfectly straight because I used a rotary cutter. Scissors don’t work well on this fabric.
For the remaining construction process I performed as stated in the pattern directions. The shoulder seams were reinforced to prevent stretching:

Here you can see the bell cuffs and the small tuck in the sleeve:

The back view:

Finally, here some of the ways to wear a cozy (you can see a lot more in this video):

Conclusion: It’s a versatile and interesting garment, and as a bonus it’s quite easy to sew. It’s what we usually call a “fabric hog” (it takes almost 3 yards of knit fabric!) but I think the result is well worth it!

Q/As: Byrdie asked about my dressform: I bought it from a mail catalogue (La Redoute) a few years ago (I don’t think they sell dressforms anymore). The horizontal measurements are adjustable (chest waist and hips) but not the torso height (my torso is almost an inch longer). I can pin on it and also iron the clothes directly on the dressform, which is essential in some cases. This dressform is not a professional dressform though; when I can I’d like to purchase a professional made to my measure dressform.

Lastly I received another award from MARIE-NOËLLE (La Machine a Coudre blog), for which I am honored and thankful:

With this prize I have to state 7 personality traits about myself, so here they are:
- I’m grumpy when I’m sleepy or when I’m hungry
- I can’t stand criterion duality
- I hate being interrupted when I’m concentrating on something
- I love animals, manly the feline kind
- I really love dark chocolate
- One of the principles that rule my life is reciprocity
- I don’t like to wear an outfit exactly the same way twice, unless the outfit is a t-shirt, jeans and snickers

Have a great day!

Very cute! I'll have to try this one also. I made Vogue 8138 and I have worn it to death in the last year. I love that the Simplicity has shoulder seams. Great tip on tacking down the collar and leaving the edges unfinished.

That is beautiful , so versatile . I really need one too !

Cute! I generally shy away from patterns like this with so much draping. Just my issues with my "girls". However, I picked up that pattern when it was on sale. I figured it'd be great to wear in the fall.

I love the color. You find the nicest fabrics :)
I also love all the different looks this cozy has. What a great addition to a wardrobe. I'm sure it looks fantastic on you.

The pattern is a little different from what I made, but the general idea is the same. I've worn mine a few times already (it's cold here, summer doesn't want to come) and it's so comfortable.
Your version and color is beautiful. Like the seam in the neck treatment. Will remember that.

I loved this so much (and even loved it more after watching the Cozy tutorial) that I went out and picked up the Simplicity pattern. Thanks for posting this!

Mmmm . . very pretty piece and will coordinate with the other pieces you have with similar coloring. I've got a Vogue version of that style, maybe I should dig it out and take another look at it because I need something like that for around here. It gets cool even in the summer.

LOVING THAT !!! That's a wonderful little garment and perfect for cool summer nights.

lovely, even if it is a fabric hog! Great tips too especially leaving the edges unfinished as the top has a lot of edges!

I made one of these years ago without a pattern. I haven't worn it in a while..time to bring it out again :) Yours is lovely and the soft fabric drapes so nicely

I love everything about this - the drapiness, versatility and color!

I love the versatility of the cosy.
I must say that I am novice es far as knits are concerned.
A very old sewing machine was the excuse, but now that I've got a brand new Viking I must give it a try.
Thanks Tany for taking the time answering my award

This is really beautiful, Tany! The cozy isn't something I would have thought I would like, but seeing how easy it is to make and the neat ways to style it has got me intrigued. I may just make one too! :)

Tany said...

Nita said...

Lindo!

Tany said...

Celina Obrigada!

Beijinhos!

Obrigada Tany pelas dicas
