A rosa de tecido – The fabric rose

Como prometido vou tentar mostrar os moldes da frente e a forma como é feita a rosa de tecido no molde do lado direito da frente:

A parte central da frente direita (também há uma parte do encaixe de lado que não é mostrada aqui), inclui o drapeado da gola atrás e a rosa de tecido, que é uma tira que se estende para baixo; há também um molde só desta tira (tipo uma vista), que é entretelado com entretela fina e será cosido a esta peça (avesso contra avesso) prendendo a franja na orla arredondada. A orla recta é franzida com pequenos pontos corridos e fio duplo.

Podem comparar com o molde da frente esquerda:

Neste molde a extensão da gola atrás tem uma inclinação diferente e não tem a rosa de tecido. Se quiséssemos fazer este modelo sem a rosa, penso que se poderia utilizar este molde para ambas as frentes, talvez com alguns ajustes nas pregas que se forma na orla da frente.

Finalmente uma foto dos passos das instruções para a montagem da rosa:
Estas instruções são insuficientes porque se só fizermos o que aqui se descreve a rosa cai sobre o seu próprio peso. É então necessário fixá-la com pequenos pontos à mão em vários sítios ao seu redor para que fique aberta e mais plana. A orla da tira que tem a franja também tem de ser enrolada para dentro, para que a rosa fique bem.

As promised I’m going to try showing you how the fabric rose is constructed and how its pattern extends the front of the jacket:

The center front pattern (there is also a side panel not shown here), includes the back draped collar and the fabric rose, that corresponds to the long appendix extending down from the shoulder. There is also a pattern for the rose facing which is interfaced with thin knit fusible and topstitched to the rose extension (wrong sides together, fringe caught in the middle on the round edge). The straight edge is gathered using a double strand of thread and small running stitches.

Here is the left front pattern for comparison:

The draped back collar is placed on a different angle here and there is no fabric rose. If you wanted to make this model without the rose, I believe you could use this pattern for both the left and right fronts, with minor adjustments on the front pleats.

Finally a picture of the instruction steps that tell you how to construct the fabric rose:
I found these instructions insufficient because if this is all you do, the rose will fall due to its own weight; the rose needs some tacking around its edges so it remains open and flat (at least with this fabric). The fringed edge needs to curl to the outside of the rose too, it looks nicer like this.

A flor e o drapeado - The flower and the draping

Até agora tudo bem e só falta fixar os drapeados a intervalos regulares com pequenos pontos escondidos. Como sei que há alguma expectativa em relação a este modelo, resolvi deixar-vos dar uma espreitadela antes de o acabar (as imagens foram clareadas para mostrar melhor os detalhes):

Adoraria mostrar o molde da frente direita, de onde sai a flor como parte integrante da peça da frente, mas por motivos de copyright não posso (para esclarecer algumas dúvidas da Ana Carina). No entanto penso que posso tentar desenhar o molde e postar o meu desenho; vou fazer isso no post final. Entretanto tenho fotos da flor antes de ser enrolada (começa-se a enrolar da ponta e, ao mesmo tempo fixa-se a base – lado franzido - com pontos à mão utilizando torçal):

Editado posteriormente: Talvez mostre a parte da frente do molde; afinal penso que não tem mal nenhum mostrar apenas o esquema e até poderei ajudar a Vogue a vender mais moldes!
A tira que vai constituir a flor faz parte da frente que também se estenda nas costas para formar o drapeado do decote atrás:

Aqui uma imagem do início da tira nas costas e da extensão para o drapeado; estou a levantar o drapeado para que possam ver o remate com a fita que usai para as costuras:

E é tudo por hoje! Mais detalhes se seguirão, mostrando a aplicação de elástico ao longo do decote por dentro para evitar que os ombros caiam, o fecho com colchetes na frente e as bainhas debruadas. Até à próxima!

So far so good and all there is to do to finish the jacket is tack the pleats in place at some strategically places with invisible hand stitches. I know you are anxious to see this model come true so I’m giving you this preview before the jacket is completed (the images were brightened so the details show more clearly):

I’d love to show you the right front pattern schematic but I cannot do that because of the copyright issues (Ana Carina was intrigued by this pattern and how the flower would come out of it). On the other hand, I think I can sketch this pattern myself and show you my drawing, so I’ll do that in the final post. In the meanwhile, here are some shots taken before constructing (rolling) the flower (I started rolling it from the point to the base, using buttonhole thread to tack its gathered edge together and to the jacket’s front:

ETA: Maybe I'll post the picture of the pattern afterall; I think there is no harm in this and it will help the people interested in purchasing this pattern.
The fabric extension that makes the flower is part of the right front, which also extends to the center back as the neckline draping you saw in the previous pictures:

Here you can see the back when I rise the back draping; the lower edge is finished with the thin seam binding.

O fato “O Diabo Veste Prada – “The Devil Wears Prada” suit

Este fato (pelo menos a jaqueta) apareceu no filme “O Diabo Veste Prada”, usado pela fabulosa Meryl Streep (imagem do site www.luxist.com).

Estou a fazer a jaqueta para já, depois, se tiver tempo, farei as calças. Como podem ver é um modelo complexo, cheio de drapeados:
Para este fato não vou ter tempo de fazer uma prova com tecido barato, por isso estou a confiar um pouco na sorte e neste molde. O molde em si é tão complexo que medi-lo ou alterá-lo na sua forma em papel é praticamente impossível, por isso cruzem os dedos por mim, pois este ou vai, ou racha!

Já vos tinha dito que não terei muito tempo para postar sobre este fato (vou usá-lo num casamento de um amigo meu), mas não resisto a mostrar alguns detalhes interessantes.Uma coisa que não se vê nas fotos do modelo é o tratamento das costuras, que é feito com uma franja confeccionada com o próprio tecido (deve-se escolher um tecido que dê para desfiar):
Podem ver a franja inserida na costura, que depois é pespontada. O efeito é mesmo muito bonito:

A flor em tecido também leva a mesma franja ao seu redor (a flor é uma tira de tecido duplo que termina em bico; de um lado é franzida, do outro leva a franja):

Nesta última foto dá para notar os fiozinhos prateados do tecido! Este tecido foi um achado, ligeiramente elástico, desfia bem, é às riscas tom sobre tom e faz uns drapeados perfeitos!

A jaqueta não é forrada, por isso deve-se ter um cuidado especial com o acabamento das costuras no avesso. Estou a usar uma fita especial para o efeito que recebi de presente da Els:

This suit (at least the jacket) was part of Miranda’s (Meryl Streep) wardrobe in the movie “The Devil Wears Prada” (next picture is courtesy of www.luxist.com):

For now I’m making the jacket and, if I have the time, I’ll make the trousers. As you can see it’s a very complex model, draped over the shoulders:
I am very short on time so I am not making a test garment; I’m trusting in my luck and this Donna Karan’s pattern. Altering the flat pattern would be almost impossible with all these folds, anyway. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

I’ve already mentioned that I won’t have much time to post about this project (I plan on wearing it on a friend’s wedding soon) but I have to show you some of the interesting details. One thing that doesn’t come obvious in the model pictures is the self fabric fringe that adorns the seams, the closure placket and the fabric rose (you should pick a fabric that unravels well, for making the fringe):
This is one of the seams that joins the side panel to the front panel, completed with the fringe, SAs pressed towards the CF and topstitched; the overall effect is gorgeous:

The fabric flower is made of two fabric layers, raw edges sewn together with the fringe in between (one edge takes the fringe, the other is gathered) and finally, a three row topstitching is added to finish the edge:

In the previous photo you can see the discrete silver threads that run across the fabric! This fabric was a great find: it’s black on black striped, slightly stretchy and it drapes beautifully!

The jacket is unlined so extra care is required on the seam finishing inside. I’m using a special purpose binding tape (a gift from dear friend Els), very thin and light. It’s perfect for this job:

Queridas leitoras, esta entrada serve o propósito de agradecer às minhas amigas e amigos de todo o mundo pelo carinho que me demonstram, não só por palavras mas também por acções. Hoje vou mostrar alguns dos tesouros que tenho recebido, pela ordem que os recebi.

Já não é a primeira vez que a Laura (da Roménia) e eu trocamos prendas e materiais de costura; desta vez, juntamente com uma corrente prateada para aplicar nas bainhas, enviou-me este magnífico colar de madrepérola que condiz exactamente com uns brincos que já mostrei anteriormente:

Eu e a Laura partilhamos uma preferência especial pela madrepérola; além do colar, A Laura mandou-me estes botões vintage, também de madrepérola e uma renda antiga:

Já tenho uma ideia para os botões maiores: este casaco da Burda de Março (falta-me um botão, mas hei-de pensar numa solução):

Da Joana (desta vez de Portugal) recebi estes presentes que ganhei num sorteio no seu blog, Chuana’s Tricot n' Stuff . Adorei, muito obrigada!

Há algum tempo pedi à Els para me comprar alguns materiais na Holanda; juntamente com a minha encomenda ela enviou-me este tecido de malha DIVINAL, por saber que eu adoro vermelho (o tecido tem áreas transparentes, fiozinhos dourados à mistura,... A foto não lhe faz justiça! É LINDO!):
Também já tenho uma ideia para este tecido: uma variação deste top da Burda de Fevereiro:

Da Adrienne (USA) recebi uns moldes Vogue e um MAGNÍFICO postal! vou guardar este postal para sempre como símbolo da nossa granda Amizade!

E o que chegou mesmo hoje:

Da Lisa (USA) um protótipo de chumaços, material para os fazer, esquemas e explicações e também um giz especial para marcar as costuras (espectacular!):

Do Paco (Barcelona) recebi o molde (criado por ele) desta magnífica jaqueta de seda vermelha, o molde dos chumaços e as amostras de tecido usados. Fiquei mesmo muito emocionada com esta oferta maravilhosa!

Finalmente, depois de muito procurar, consegui arranjar uma tábua especial para passar veludo (é uma tábua flexível, com uma superfície com picos de metal, que os profissionais usam para passar o veludo) graças à Summerset (USA), que ma encomendou e enviou pelo correio, juntamente com um lindo postal da região onde vive:

Sou ou não sou uma mulher de sorte? Para todas e todos, os meus sinceros agradecimentos!

Quanto á costura: o meu projecto actual vai a passo lento porque esta semana tem sido demoníaca em termos de trabalho. Também já não tenho esperanças de completar todos os projectos da minha lista de Outono Inverno porque já começo a pensar na Primavera, por isso alguns irão transitar para o ano. Ainda hoje ou amanhã irei postar algumas fotos do tenho feito no meu fato "O Diabo Veste Prada"!

E quanto ao tricô? Bem, anda a passo mais lento ainda… Estou a tricotar umas luvas sem dedos “Fetching” para a minha amiga Isabelle de Paris, mas a este ritmo ela só as vai poder usar no próximo Inverno! Mas enquanto não as acabar não verão aqui nenhum outro projecto de tricô! Fiquem bem!
Dear readers, today’s entry is dedicated to thank all the fabulous gifts I’ve been receiving from all over the world. I feel truly blessed! I’ll show you some of the treasures, by the order they arrived in my mailbox.

It’s not the first time that Laura (from Romania) and me exchange gifts and sewing notions; this time I asked Laura to get me a silver chain, hoping to use it in the Unrath&Strano suit. Along with the chain Laura sent me this fabulous mother of pearl necklace that is the perfect match for a pair of earrings I already own:

Some of you already know that I and Laura share the love for mother of pearl accessories and buttons; Laura also sent me these gorgeous vintage mother of pearl buttons and this lovely vintage lace:

I already have a model in mind for the larger buttons: this jacket is featured in the March BWOF; I have less one button but I think I can figure out a solution!

From Joana (Chuana’s Tricot n' Stuff , this time from Portugal) I got these lovely gifts won at her blog's drawing contest:
Some time ago I asked Els (The Sewing Diva from Holand) the big favour of buying me some hard to find notions. Knowing that I love the color red, she also sent me this GORGEOUS burn-out knit fabric! It’s truly divine:

From Adrienne (USA) I received these Vogue patterns and this FABULOUS postcard! Wow! I will keep this postcard as a token of your friendship, my friend!

And these came in today:

Lisa (USA) sent me her prototype of a RTW shoulder pad, along with its pattern, detailed assembling instructions AND this GREAT chalk marker! How cool is this?

Paco (Barcelona) took my breath away when he offered me the pattern for this fabulous creation of his: a magnificent red silk jacket. Together with the pattern I also found the samples of the fabrics (silk, underlining and lining) and the patterns for the custom made raglan shoulder pads!

Finally, after searching almost everywhere, I was able to get my needle board for pressing velvet, all thanks to Summerset (USA) that was so kind to order it and mail it out for me! I also found another lovely postcard inside, showing a landscape of the place where Summerset lives!

Am I or am I not a lucky girl? My deepest thanks to all of you! Your friendship is my biggest treasure!

On the sewing front: my “The Devil Wears Prada” suit is coming along slowly but nicely (I’ve been overloaded with work, for a change) and I expect to post some progress pictures really soon (maybe today!). I lost all hope of completing all the garments in my Fall Winter project list because spring sewing is starting to appeal to me. Some projects will have to be postponed until next fall, I’m afraid.

On the knitting front: well, progress has been even slower… I am knitting an elbow length version of the Fetching mittens for my friend Isabelle and at this pace I fear she will only get to wear them next fall! But I won’t start another knitting project until this one is finished and I’m putting all my love into it! See you soon, everybody!
