A seguir/Next: Vestido Paz Torras

I finished this dress a few days ago; it has been hard to keep this blog up to date with my sewing activity, I'm sure you all understand it.

This dress is featured in the Patrones nº257 (June 2007); you can see the line drawing bellow (the line drawing is not accurate because there is no button immediately bellow the collar):

When I first saw this model I started to picture it in red with contrasting topstitching, well enhanced so it defines the pocket outlines. My fabric choice was true to the original model (linen) but with a different colorway: red. For the topstitching I used cream buttonhole twist. There are also wood buttons, red thread and a piece of cream cotton tape for the pocket flaps detail.

In the picture there is also red lining; at first I was planning to line this dress but then I remembered how badly the linen wrinkles and decided that I could live with an unlined linen dress, since the lining would make the process of pressing more difficult. Without a lining this dress will be more comfortable to wear in hot weather too.

Before cutting the fabric I washed it on a gentle cycle and medium temperature; the reason for avoiding higher temperatures is me being afraid the color might fade. After being washed, linen softens and it doesn't gain as much wearing wrinkles. I dried the lining in the machine but removed it while it was still damp. The process of pressing became a lot easier this way. Linen gains lustre when pressed so If you don't want the lustre a style feature you should press it on the wrong side only and use a press cloth when you need to press it on the right side. I used a silk organza press cloth.

Até à próxima!
See you next time!
