A jaqueta do Paco: terminada! - Paco’s jacket: finished!

Português
English (uncheck the other box and check this one)

Finalmente a etiqueta:

Here’s the final outcome of my sewing adventure using a model created by Paco, that not only provided me with the pattern, also sent me most of the materials used, like the custom made shoulder pads, the tiny reinforcement buttons and the underlining! I only had to choose the fabric (metallic copper synthetic silk with silver embroidered motifs), the matching metallic buttons and invest a few hours of meticulous work for the matching of the motifs and the making of this jacket so that it would be perfectly symmetrical to the eye (see more details about this and the underlining procedure here).

Model’s description: Jacket has ¾ raglan sleeves, in-seam pockets and wide belt tied on the front, standing collar, it has a front button closure with in-seam buttonholes and it’s fully lined.

The pattern that Paco created is perfect; everything matches up perfectly, it includes different pieces for the lining, seam allowances and hem allowances (2cm on the side seams, 6cm or more for the hems and 1cm for the remaining SAs).

Modifications: The only thing I had to alter was the button placement so they would be aligned with the motifs on the front (as you can observe in the pictures above). This is a visual balance matter and it wouldn’t look good otherwise. In consequence the last button was placed lower but this is alright since I can wear it unbuttoned as with men’s jackets:

A few more details:

The collar with the swirls aligning and symmetrical:

On the back and on some seams I had to “complete” some of the motifs that didn’t match perfectly or that were somehow cropped; for this I interfaced some motifs on the wrong side and cut them out to be stitched in place by hand:

This is another appliqué motif on the back; I had to add a half motif to recreate the symmetry:

Also on the pockets:

The belt carrier was made as a crochet chain using buttonhole twist; with the jacket on it's almost invisible:

All the buttons are reinforced on the wrong side:

And here are the in-seam buttonholes, on the right side and the wrong side where you can see a close-up of the invisible stitches that join the two layers of fabric:

I opted for a very simple lining because the jacket itself is so eye catching:

Finally my label:

Conclusion: I think this jacket turned out really well and believe me, the pictures don’t do it justice, because if I take them with the flash on they’ll turn out too bright and without the flash they just don’t show the fabric’s true color either. In spite of this I think I succeeded on showing you the details that make this jacket so special. Because I’m dedicating this jacket to my dear friend Paco, who is a professional couturier and provided me with this great honor of making one of his creations, I wanted to create something sophisticated and for wearing on special occasions. To Paco my deepest thanks and all my friendship! Making this jacket was a real pleasure!

I especially got hooked on the in-seam button holes, what a nice little feature. Paco made a great pattern for you.
