EN: In my previous article (click here) I have determined that the Patrones pattern wasn’t going to work for me and I stated the intention of trying to draft the pattern myself, starting from my basic bodice block which I have fitted to my personal measurements (click here). Paco of BCN Unique patterns offered to help and coming from someone with years of experience in custom dressmaking and pattern drafting, his assessment is quite valuable. In his opinion (and I totally agree) there are a couple of issues that could be improved:
1 –The Patrones pattern was designed creating the pleats on one shoulder towards the waist (it’s a design feature): it would be more flattering if the pleats crossed the entire front diagonally, instead of just one side.
2 – On the Patrones dress, the outer pleat falls away from the natural shoulder line into the dropped shoulder; instead both pleats should be located on the natural shoulder and not far into the dropped shoulder line. The neckline, as consequence, can’t be as wide.
Paco also suggested to cut the front of the dress on the bias; the draping will benefit from the bias cut and the front will hug the body more naturally. The back remains cut on the grain.
Being the wonderful friend that he is, he took the trouble of making me two sketches of the main pattern manipulation to the front of the dress (after redrafting the armholes and the neckline if necessary); the first drawing shows the basic bodice block as a whole front after shifting the vertical shoulder dart into a horizontal chest dart:

PT: No meu post anterior (clicar
aqui) percebi que o molde a revista Patrones não iria resultar para mim e manifestei a intenção de redesenhar completamente o molde a partir do molde básico da blusa que mostrei neste outro post (clicar
aqui). O Paco dos
moldes BCN Unique ofereceu-se para me ajudar e, com a sua longa experiência de confeção por medida e desenho de moldes, detetou de imediato alguns pontos que poderiam ser melhorados em relação ao modelo da revista Patrones:
1 – O molde da Patrones foi desenhado com as pregas num lado apenas, dirigidas para baixo (para a cintura) no mesmo lado; obter-se-á um design mais favorecedor se as pregas cruzarem toda a frente na diagonal em vez de verticalmente de um ombro até à cintura.
2 – No vestido Patrones, a última prega já cai do ombro para a manga caída; isto cria um efeito esquisito na manga e no drapeado resultante; ambas as pregas devem localizar-se sobre o ombro (o decote terá de ser mais estreito em consequência deste facto).
Além destes pontos o Paco também sugeriu que a frente ( apenas a frente) seja cortada em viés, para obter um melhor caimento e para que se ajuste melhor às curvas do corpo.
Sendo o amigo super-prestável que é, o Paco ainda desenhou dois esquemas que ilustram a manipulação do molde para conseguir as pregas (isto depois de redesenhadas as cavas para o efeito ombro caído); o primeiro desenho mostra como se parte do molde da frente completo com as pinças de ombro movidas para a linha horizontal do peito:
EN: The procedure to obtain the pleats is quite straight forward; just slashing where the pleats should be and closing the chest darts should do the trick; note that the waist darts were moved to the sides and the bottom front edge is slightly rounded to eliminate the slight sagging that would occur because of the bias cut fabric (this is a very valuable tip!!).

PT: O procedimento para obter as pregas num dos ombros não poderia ser mais fácil: corta-se onde as pregas se formarão e fecha-se as pinças de peito, abrindo assim as pregas. Notem que as pinças da cintura foram movidas para o lado e que a orla de baixo da frente deve ficar ligeiramente arredondada para compensar o excesso causado pelo corte em viés (esta é uma excelente dica a reter!).
EN: As a last note I remembered that the draping is visually more appealing if located on the opposite shoulder as shown in my drawing, next to the fashion fabric; this is so because the human eye is naturally trained to follow a left to right / up-down motion.

PT: Como nota final lembrei-me que o drapeado é mais favorecedor se seguir a tendência natural dos olhos, isto é, da esquerda para a direita e de cima para baixo; sendo assim, ficará melhor no ombro oposto, como mostra o meu desenho no início do post, onde mostro também o piqué estampado que reservei para fazer o vestido!
