Este post é pleno de surpresas! A primeira é para vocês e é a foto da gabardina de organza no modelo real (a pedido de diversas famílias, hehe):

Estou a usá-la com um vestido que não fui eu que fiz; gostei tanto dele, do tecido de malha tipo seda com este padrão às flores pintalgadas que tive de o comprar!

Neste post da Ana Carina vão aperceber-se que uma gabardina de organza afinal não é tão invulgar!

A segunda surpresa foi minha ao receber no correio este alfinete de peito e o postal da minha amiga e talentosa Rosa! Adorei!


E por último, a minha grande surpresa de hoje, uma surpresa do meu querido Paco, que além da nova Patrones me oferece um molde vintage de Montana (V1048) intacto! Não imaginam a minha emoção!


O Paco tem uma extensa colecção de moldes de designer da Vogue, principalmente dos anos 90, e quando me mostrou algumas fotos apaixonei-me imediatamente por este modelo… Estava a pensar pedir-lhe uma cópia e eis que me deparo com o molde de presente! Obrigada querido!

E chegámos ao final de uma semana que foi duríssima para mim, pois não tive tempo de costurar, de responder a todos os emails e de ler todos os meus blogs favoritos… Infelizmente esta tendência vai manter-se por algum tempo pois no meu trabalho estamos envolvidos num projecto importante com datas muito apertadas, o que quer dizer que por uns tempos vou ter de trabalhar mais horas, possivelmente até alguns fins-de-semana… Peço a vossa compreensão e prometo passar aqui sempre que tenha novidades.

This post is about surprises (the pleasant type, lol). The first surprise is for you all and it’s the long awaited picture of me wearing the organza trench coat:

I’m wearing it with a dress which wasn’t made by me; I liked it so much when I saw it (the retro look/wide stand-up collar, the fabulous knit printed fabric) that I had to buy it!

If you read this post by Ana Carina you’ll find out that there are organza trench coats in the spring/summer RTW collections! The article is about a strong trend: belts and sashes, but Ana Carina managed to find a beautiful organza trench coat while browsing the internet for inspiration!

The second surprise was in my mail box a few days ago and it’s this gorgeous brooch and postcard from my dear and talented friend Rosa! I love it!


Lastly my surprise when I opened the mail box today: from my dearest friend Paco, the latest Patrones (this one doesn’t disappoint! It’s a fabulous issue!) and this WONDERFUL vintage pattern by Montana (V1048 – uncut)! I was speechless when I opened the gift envelope!


Paco owns an extensive designer Vogue pattern collection, mostly from the 90’s. When he showed me some of his treasures I immediately fell in love with this pant suit… I was planning to ask him for a copy and… SURPRISE! He offers me the original pattern! I couldn’t believe my eyes and I am deeply grateful… Gracias, querido!

I can’t believe the week is almost over… This one has been particularly rough on me (no sewing, no NOTHING!). At work I am involved in a project with very tight timetables… We must run against time if we want to meet our deadlines. This means more hours at the office, possibly some weekends too… I won’t be able to update my blog as regularly as I’d wish and I am also very late on most of my blog reading and on answering emails/comments… Please forgive me for this; I hope my life returns to normal in a month or so. I will be updating this blog as I can.

A gabardina de organza – The organza trench coat

Modelo original: Revista Burda Internacional 1/96, modelo 915:


Esta revista traz mais opções para este mesmo molde, sendo a minha favorita este casaco (reparem como um tecido diferente muda completamente o estilo do modelo):

Material: Organza de seda natural (uma oferta do Paco, gracias, querido amigo!), 6 botões de madrepérola azul-turquesa grandes, 1 mais pequeno, botões de reforço transparentes (também oferecidos pelo Paco!).

Modificações ao modelo original: A única modificação que fiz foi acrescentar os botões, e aplicar costuras francesas (também chamadas inglesas) nas costuras verticais e para as cavas usar uma técnica que consiste em aparar os valores de costura apenas das mangas e usar os valores de costura da gabardina para cobrir os da manga.

As técnicas para trabalhar com organza foram explicadas com detalhe num projecto anterior, a minha blusa vermelha de organza.

Conclusão: Um projecto muito original (quem se lembraria de fazer uma gabardina de organza?), com um resultado 100% satisfatório! O facto de ter todo trabalhado num tecido transparente faz com que sejam aplicados cuidados adicionais no tratamento das costuras e nos remates. O facto de esta organza ser 100% seda facilita bastante o trabalho de costura, pois ao contrário da organza sintética, esta pode passar-se a ferro com uma temperatura alta e até usar vapor. Além disso é muito mais resistente do que a organza sintética.

Estive o fim-de-semana praticamente sem Internet, por isso só amanhã deverei começar a por as leituras dos blogs em dia! Bom, e agora é preciso começar a preparar o próximo projecto! Até breve!

This magazine features several versions for this same pattern and my favorite is this one (note as another type of fabric makes it look as a completely different model!):

Materials: Silk organza (a gift from my dear friend Paco, gracias, querido amigo!), 6 mother-of-pearl buttons and a smaller one for the wrong side, small reinforcement buttons (these were a gift from Paco too!)

Modifications to the original model: The only alterations were adding the buttons and the seam treatment (French seams and self-bound armholes – trimming the sleeve SAs to aprox. 1/8inch and using the armhole SAs to bind the sleeve SAs)

The techniques used for sewing with silk organza were thoroughly explained on a previous project, the red organza blouse.

Conclusion: A very original garment (who would have thought of making an organza trench coat), with 100% satisfaction achieved! The fact of using see-through fabric is the more challenging aspect of this project, because all the extra care and time invested on the seam treatment and finishing. Using 100%silk organza makes this job easier because it can be pressed and steamed at high temperatures (as opposite to the more common synthetic organza) and the silk organza is not as easily ripped.

My internet connection was down for most of the weekend, so I haven’t been able to catch up on my blog reading; hope to do so tomorrow! Well, and now I must prepare my next project! See you soon!
