Pictures of me wearing the coat were published on my personal style blog (click here).

Description: Long unlined coat, has a dramatic collar, inseam pockets and belt. This coat has no facings and no closure.
---
Pattern used: BurdaStyle October 2010, model 103. Cut size 38 without any kind of pattern alterations.
---
Molde usado: BurdaStyle Outubro de 2010, modelo 103. Tracei o tamanho 38, sem modificações.
Fabric used: Double faced brushed/felted blend. The only complaint is that this fabric doesn’t press well.
--
I called this coat the one-weekend coat because it’s so easy and quick to make. In spite of the simplicity and the easiness, the outcome looks particularly refined, mainly because of the dramatic collar.
---
Details / Detalhes:
The collar is the star detail in this coat; for added body and draped effect, I tucked the back collar edge to the back neckline (this was basically the only modification done to the original detail):
---
The sleeves: on the wrong side you can see the interfacing tape used to stabilize the armholes.
---
As mangas: no avesso podem ver a fita termo-colante usada para estabilizar as cavas.
The in-seam pockets / Os bolsos metidos nas costuras:
The belt-loops / As passadeiras do cinto:
The seam finishing: used one of my new SM’s overcasting stitches, similar to a hand-sewn blanket stitch:
---
Conclusion: Really love the outcome! I spent one weekend making this coat (as a consequence my house was a mess because my cleaning lady was sick and I spent all my free time sewing instead of cleaning, lol), and I recommend this pattern if you want a stylish yet quick to make coat. And now I’m off to finish a new dress from the latest BurdaStyle issue! More on that later!
---

ReplyDeleteLovely lovely coat. Great job! I like yours better than the Burda sample. ~Teri
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you carved out the time to sew for yourself. I really like the tuck you made at the collar.
ReplyDeleteOur entire family was at home and sick when our cleaning lady was scheduled to come. We didn't want to cancel on her, but then she called in sick herself. LOL.
Our house is a disaster, but, if I have any energy, I'll be sewing instead of cleaning, too.
Beautiful, this combination of grey and black does the pattern more justice than the original fabric Burda used. You'll enjoy wearing this coat.
ReplyDeleteGreat coat - the fabric really makes it.
ReplyDeletebeautiful, I love the two toned effect also.

ReplyDeleteComo sempre fazes tudo parecer tão simples...

ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous coat and fabric texture! Thanks for showing the seam finishing. It's fascinating to see the inside of an unlined coat.
