EN: I love Miss Fisher's style and I wanted a linen coat similar to hers. I had two options: drafting the pattern myself or use a ready pattern as a base, so first I tried going through my Burda Magazine's collection seeking a suitable raglan coat pattern. I found a pattern which I fell in love with in one of my old Burda International magazines (model 915 from Burda International 4/1995); it is not exactly as Miss Fisher's though: it's more loose fitting (specially the sleeves which are wider), it has a different larger collar with collar stand, and a few other subtle differences. The magazine's pattern was originally made of wool and it featured cord details on the upper part of the raglan sleeves, along with shoulder pads. I decided to use this pattern as a base because I've been seeing more and more of these oversize design trench coats and I believe they are more on trend now. I also hoped the resulting coat would resemble Miss Fisher's enough and still feel "modern". I think I have accomplished just that, together with the matching hat.

PT: Gosto mesmo muito do estilo da Miss Fisher e queria um casaco de linho semelhante ao dela. Tinha à partida duas opções: desenhar eu mesma o molde ou usar um molde pronto como base; decidi primeiro pesquisar na minha coleção de revistas Burda se havia algum molde de casaco raglan que se adequasse. Nessa pesquisa deparei-me om um modelo que me apaixonou, apesar de não ser completamente fiel às linhas do casaco da Miss Fisher: o molde 915 da Burda Internacional 4/1995. As linhas deste casaco são mais largas e soltas, especialmente nas mangas, tem uma gola maior e com pé-de-gola (acredito que o da Miss Fisher é uma simples gola Peter Pan), além de outras pequenas diferenças. Este molde foi idealizado para ser confecionado de lã, com detalhes de cordões na cabeça das mangas e chumaços raglan. Decidi usar este molde como base porque tenho visto muitas gabardinas assim largueironas e creio que estão mais na moda. Também queria que o casaco final se parecesse o suficiente com o da Miss Fisher e ainda assim fosse "moderno". Acho que consegui exatamente isso, em conjunto com o chapéu.

Pattern Alterations: The first and more significant was removing the sleeve cap height accounted for the shoulder pads, since I didn't want to use them on my coat. The next photo shows the alteration, done on both front and back raglan sleeve patterns (I removed about 3/8" on the shoulder point, blending in to nothing towards the neckline and sleeve):

Alterações ao molde: A primeira e mais importante foi remover a altura da cabeça das mangas correspondente à altura dos chumaços raglan, uma vez que não pretendia colocá-los no meu casaco. Na foto seguinte podem ver esta alteração, que deve ser feita na parte da frente e parte de trás do molde das mangas raglan (tirei cerca de 1cm no ombro, reduzindo gradualmente até nada no decote e na manga):

EN: Other minor alterations were altering the front closure button placement, drafting wide sleeve tabs and altering the pockets from simple patch pockets to patch pockets with integrated flaps (read my sewing tutorial here).

PT: Outras modificações menos significativas foram alterar o posicionamento dos botões na frente, acrescentar as tabelas largas nos punhos e redesenhar os bolsos chapa para integrarem as paletas (podem ler o passo-a-passo da confeção dos bolsos aqui).

PT: Os botões também são muito bonitos e clássicos, na minha opinião. Neste casaco decidi fazer as casas de botão à máquina, utilizando linha de algodão na mesma cor do tecido e acho que ficaram muito bem:

EN: Although I believe Miss Fisher's driving coat isn't lined, I decided to line mine for wearing comfort over other layers of clothing. I bagged the lining the industrial way, as you can see from the facing/hem/corner below. I also used little anchor buttons to hold the outer buttons more securely without straining the lining and also provide a superior finish inside:

PT: Embora acredite que o casaco de conduzir da Miss Fisher não tivesse forro, decidi forrar o meu para ser mais confortável de usar, principalmente sobre outras camadas de roupa. Apliquei o forro todo à máquina (método industrial) como se pode ver pelo acabamento da junção do forro com a vista e a bainha. Reparem também que usei pequenos botões para escorar os botões grandes por dentro, evitando assim que forcem o tecido com o uso e proporcionando um acabamento de qualidade superior por dentro do casaco:

EN: I really love how my "detective coat" turned out and I already wore it a few times, although I haven't had the chance of taking outfit photos just yet. My house is undergoing exterior renovations so the yard is a mess; outfit photos will have to wait until the construction workers clear the premises (hopefully by next week); I am falling behind on documenting my outfits on Tany et La Mode!
