I finished this project last week but only today I had the time for writing about it. I'm wearing it together with the Jocavi dress because this was the intended purpose for this jacket, but seeing the two garments together I can't say I totally like the overall effect. I'm not sure I can point my finger at what feels wrong though; maybe the mixed pattern color or the dress neckline together with the jacket's… It's not a complete "no" but I can say this jacket looks much nicer with a blue spaghetti strap top and blue jeans. The color contrast - if this jacket is worn together with solid colors - is more appealing to me somehow.

And here is the lace band that goes around the front edges, back neckline and the hem on the back:
I crocheted this band using a 4mm needle so the jacket would hug the body better when worn (for the jacket I used a 4.5mm needle). The necklace is wide at the shoulders but I can say for sure now that it won't fall off. I like the overall result: this jacket is ideal for those sometimes chilly summer days (we have been having a lot of those over here!). As I predicted, this jacket is not as close fitting as the BWOF's original but I kind of like it this way. If anyone is willing to make this jacket, you can try a softer yarn and a 4mm needle instead for a different look.

And this is a detail shot of the crochet trim on the Jocavi dress; I forgot to add this picture when I posted about the dress.

Fiquem bem!
Well, now I really must hurry and try to finish my crochet dress; with all this sewing that has been going on around here, I'm afraid I've been neglecting this previous project. See you!

My goodness Tany this is just beautiful!!!! Your talent never ceases to amaze me! And thanks again for your help yesterday! :-)
ReplyDeleteBem Tany,
ReplyDeleteFicou um espetáculo, super giro. Adorei completamente o casaco.

ficou lindissimo.
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful jacket! Maybe the pattern of the jacke and the pattern of the dress are competing - they are both beautiful garments individually. You are incredibly talented!
ReplyDeleteHi Tany,
ReplyDeletethis crochet jacket is really gorgeous. But you are totally right with your remarks, dress and jacket is too much. Both show their beauty together with solid colours. But however, all the things you make are just beautiful and your instructions are really precious for me.
Greets,
Katrom
Wow - amazing skills you have! I can't wait to see the crochet dress!
ReplyDeleteThis turned out wayyyyyyyyyy beyond lovely!
ReplyDeleteOi Tany,
ReplyDeleteFicou linda a blusa adoreiiiiii, vc realmente faz peças lindas..
beijoss

Beautifully crochet jacket. Great work! I agree with your assessment on the outfit, though. Original intention does not necessarily work out nicely. Such is life. I am sure it looks smashing with more casual style. :)
Beijos,
Audrey
Truly lovely cardigan. I understand how you might think that the pieces are competing with each other in the front view, but the back view looks okay to me.
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful Tany!
ReplyDeleteI love both pieces. I do like them together. And I think I'd like them with solid partners too. Very different looks either way.
ReplyDeleteWowie wow! The jacket is gorgeous. Yes, I think with blue jeans it will look awesome! And the dress is quite wonderful in its own right.
ReplyDeleteThe jacket is beautifully made! I agree with your assessment that the jacket and dress are fighting each other. I think if the jacket was solid, then the print of the dress would be fine. As it is, you are able to wear it with other garments, so it is not a total loss.
ReplyDeleteOi, Tany!
ReplyDeleteTudo bem com você? Ficou maravilhoso!
Beijos!

Since the jacket has a strong impression of pattern and color, as does the dress, they do appear somewhat in competition.
ReplyDeleteSince both are extraordinarily lovely, a solid color dress with the jacket would be stunning (perhaps a cobalt blue or darker). Perhaps a silk jersey would work as a good jacket partner for the dress.
Gorgeous! I also agree that you do not see the beauty of the jacket in combination with the dress. I bet it does look smashing over solids. You are amazing!
ReplyDeleteLoving your designs and confer that the jacket & dress are competing and would pair up beautifully with solid pieces... but both garments are just outstanding.
Beijinhos
I think the problem is that the 2 colours of the jacket and the dress are competing and you can't see where one starts and one finishes. I love both of them but perhaps not together. The jacket is so lovely it needs a solid to show it off properly.
ReplyDeleteObrigada a todas!
ReplyDeleteThanks to all for your opinion! I see most of you agree that both garments are better worn separately with solid colors than together! That is also my opinion!
Gosh Tany! It is hard to keep up with you, so many amazingly beautiful clothes.
ReplyDeleteI would like to give this jacket a try myself, you inspired me and gave me courage.
I'd like to know what kind of yarn would be best and how much I would need? Did you use what Burda suggested, and where could I find it?
I simply have to have a jacket like yours! LOVE IT! The dress is just as pretty!
Hi Mirela! I used 100%cotton for 4.5mm – 5mm needles; it’s a heavy yarn so I used much more weight than the recommended in the instructions (I don’t really remember how much, I’ll have to weight down the jacket so I would know for sure! My advice would be using a more "lightweight" yarn, like cotton/acrylic blend and perhaps a 4mm-4.5mm needle; you should make a swatch for the basic stitch (the stitch used for making the back) before you decide which needle works for your size.
ReplyDeleteAdorei o resultado final!
ReplyDeleteBjs
Chuana :)
