So Chic Box Kit Couture: the LÉA blouse in beige silk with golden threads (DP Studio's Le608)

EN: The LÉA is an asymmetric flared blouse with tie-collar and long puff sleeves ending with narrow cuffs. The kit is available in several different fabrics and I ordered the beige silk with golden threads, which is now sold-out (find out more about these kits on DPStudio's website; the kits are exclusively available at Hamon Paris).

PT: A blusa LÉA tem um design assimétrico e solto com uma gola de atar e mangas bufantes compridas, terminadas com punhos estreitos. O kit de costura está disponível em diversas opções de tecidos e optei por a de seda beige com fios dourados, que neste momento já está esgotada (no sítio DPStudio podem saber mais sobre estes kits, que estão à venda exclusivamenet na Hamon Paris).

EN: The kit contained the fabric (100% natural silk with golden threads), white thin woven fusible interfacing for the cuffs and facings, straight grain fusible tape, a large spool of Coats thread matching the fabric color, two buttons, the pattern and the French-written sewing instructions. I had no issues with the pattern or the instructions, which are clear and precise. I cut my usual size 42 and shortened the sleeves by 3/4" (3/8" on the upper arm area and 3/8" on the lower arm area).

PT: O kit continha o tecido (100% seda natural com fios dourados), entretela tecida branca fina de colar a ferro para os punhos e vistas, fita estabilizadora termo-colante, um carrinho grande (1000m) de linhas Coats na cor do tecido, dois botões, o molde e as instruções escritas em francês. Não tive quaisquer problemas com as instruções e o molde, que são claros e concisos; cortei o meu tamanho usual DP Studio (42), e encurtei 2cm no comprimento das mangas, descontando 1cm no antebraço e 1cm na zona do bicep.

EN: Cutting silk can be tricky and requires some special techniques. I laid out the silk (single layer layout in this case) on top of a paper table cloth (the kind used for kids parties) and straightened the fabric out very thoroughly. Then I pined the cut pattern on top (respecting the straight of grain indications on the pattern) through fabric and bottom paper layers. I used my serrated Fiskars shears (a gift from a very dear friend of mine) and cut through both layers of silk and paper underneath. The bottom paper layer reduces fabric distortion to minimum and ensures accurate cutting, while serrated shears are better at cutting shear and slippery fabrics.

PT: Cortar tecidos de seda natural pode ser complicado e devem usar-se técnicas especiais para evitar que o tecido se mova e as peças cortadas fiquem distorcidas. Neste caso cortei com o tecido simples (não dobrado) disposto em cima de uma toalha de mesa de papel rugoso (do tipo usado para festas infantis). O papel dá alguma estabilidade ao tecido, que deve ser cuidadosamente estendido para não ficar torto. Depois alfinetei o molde às duas camadas, respeitando as linhas de correr do fio indicadas no molde. Usei umas tesouras especiais da Fiskars para tecidos finos e escorregadios, que têm uma micro-serrilha que ajuda a prender o tecido à medida que se corta. Cortei o tecido e a toalha de papel a por baixo ao mesmo tempo, evitando assim que a seda escorregasse e as peças ficassem distorcidas.

EN: All pins and needles used on silk must be thin and sharp, otherwise they may pull a thread and ruin the fabric. I used glass head extra sharp pins and a new size 9 sharp needle on my lockstitch sewing machine. I was also careful to avoid stitching from the right side of the fabric because of the golden threads; whenever I had to stitch with right side of fabric up, I did it slowly and making sure all threads would go under the presser foot and not caught by it.

The front opening was stabilized with straight grain fusible tape before the facings were stitched on; I also stay-stitched the diagonal front seam and the armholes to keep them from stretching out of shape while sewing.

PT: Todos os alfinetes e agulhas devem ser finos e bem afiados para não estragar a seda. Usei alfinetes de cabeça de vidro extra-finos e uma agulha nova tamanho 65 na minha máquina de coser industrial. Tive também o cuidado de evitar coser com o direito do tecido (o que tem os fios) para cima; sempre que o tive de fazer cosi muito devagar, com o cuidado extra de me assegurar que os fios não ficavam presos no calcador.

A abertura da frente foi estabilizada com fita termo-colante antes de aplicar as vistas entreteladas; além disso passei um pesponto nas cavas e na costura diagonal da frente, para evitar que esbujassem e deformassem ao coser.

EN: I had no problem pressing and using fusible interfacing on this silk (of course I tested first). As to the seam finishing, french seams wouldn't work so well with this type of textured fabric so I used a three-thread well balanced narrow overlock and it worked like a charm.

PT: Não tive problemas nem a assentar a ferro nem a aplicar entretelas termo-colantes nesta seda (testei primeiro, claro). Quanto ao acabamento das costuras, costuras francesas não resultam muito bem com tecidos com fios e textura por isso usei a corta-e-cose, com um ponto overlock estreito de três fios bem equilibrado, obtendo ótimos resultados.

EN: Being extra-careful and working slowly, I was also able to sew perfect machine-buttonholes with my trustworthy Pfaff Ambition Essential. I used Fray-check before slashing the buttonholes open with a buttonhole chisel, to avoid fraying.

PT: Trabalhando devagar e com cuidado, consegui bordar as casas de botão com a minha velha amiga Pfaff Ambition Essential. Usei um selante (Fray Check) antes de abrir as casas com um chisel pequeno, para evitar que desfiem.

EN: The blouse turned out really well and the fabric isn't harsh at all against the skin (I had my concerns, but was pleasantly surprised). The pattern is cute and stylish, and I will surely use it again with other fabrics.

I confess becoming addicted to these kits; I didn't rest until I bought one of each and I have been sewing them one after another because it's easier when you have everything you need in a box. Lately sewing works as my only therapy. Loosing Paco has affected me deeply. I have his previous pattern V1602 in my sewing queue since I received it (it took more than two months to arrive since it was released, sigh...). I ordered a beautiful dark turquoise cotton blend boucle from Linton Tweeds, I have the matching turquoise silk organza for the underlining and nude silk for lining; everything is prepped and ready yet I still can't face it. Tears keep running down my face when I do...

PT: A blusa ficou linda e o tecido não irrita a pele (tive as minhas dúvidas, mas fiquei agradavelmente surpreendida). O molde é giro e tem estilo, e é muito provável que o use de novo com outros tecidos.

Confesso estar um pouco viciada nestes kits; não descansei até ter comprado um de cada e tenho estado a cosê-los um atrás do outro, porque é fácil quando temos tudo o que precisamos numa caixa. Ultimamente coser funciona como a minha única terapia. Ter perdido o Paco afetou-me mesmo muito. Tenho o seu penúltimo molde V1602 para fazer desde que chegou (mais de dois meses de atraso no envio, uff). Encomendei um tecido turquesa escuro lindo da Linton Tweeds, tenho organza de seda turquesa para o entre-forro e seda natural nude para o forro, tudo preparado para começar,... No entanto, cada vez que pego nas coisas desato a chorar, e simplesmente ainda não me sinto preparada,...
