I began by fusing the weft inser...Bunny: Thank you! I began by fusing the weft insertion to the entire front; then cut the canvas shield without SAs along the inset/collar seam and with a reduced (less than 1/4") SA along the armhole and shoulder. I placed it on the jacket front and then placed the thin fusible on top, which includes all SAs but it's a little shorter than the shield. I fused the top layer in place, sandwishing the canvas underneath. When the shoulders and armholes are stitched the shield will be caught by the stitching so there's no risk of it getting out of place. I first read about this technique in the Burda Sewing book (my first sewing book) and I've applied it in several jackets tailored with fusible interfacings.
