Regarding that fusible tape, I found once a very good one in Brussels (I wonder if it can be found online as well) - it is a bias cut fusible tape (for necklines and armholes) and it has a machine chainstitch running through the middle, in order to stabilise it.
I do hope your morale is better and you will be able to get more time for sewing. You are an excellent teacher a...Els: Thank you Els. You are an excellent teacher and since I've met you my sewing skills improved a lot. I feel honoured that you chose to share your knowledge with me.

Vicki: The Singer book on Tailoring is one of my main references for this project; when I wrote Els telling her what I was planning on doing, I mentioned that I didn't think reinforcing the seams at the back would be necessary, since I was adding a back shield. Els wisely reminded me that this is a close fitting jacket and it needs to be well reinforced at the seams that are cut of grain. The interfacings are also cut off grain so the seams won't be properly reinforced only by applying the interfacing. Another thing to consider here is that the thin knit fusible stretches on the crosswise direction; for me it doesn't count as interfacing, sort of speak. So I could say that with this design, this fabric and my choice of interfacings, it's wiser to reinforce all the seams that are not on grain and those which are subject to more strain. I will also stay stitch the seams that join the back pieces to the side panels, since these seams are also rounded and the SAs will have to be notched/clipped.

Rebekah: I'm glad to know you find this information helpful!

Isabelle: You know me, my friend! I like to be helpful and to inspire other people to sew; this is the whole reason of writing this blog! I'm glad most people are enjoying it as much as I do!

Summerset: Thank you! I know you are in the process of making all the prep work for your white velevet jacket too! I was only last night reading my Singer tailoring book which covers most of this but this is so much more personal!

One thing I noticed that was different, is that the Singer book does not reinforce seams where fusible interfacing has been used. The interfacing is included in the seam allowances and that stabilises them. They use seam tape when they use hair canvas which they don't include in the seam allowances.Vickihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01529416439720810403noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1707374644461378032.post-17384606597317540382008-01-20T02:10:00.000+00:002008-01-20T02:10:00.000+00:00Tany, you are so worth to share the tailoring tech...Tany, you are so worth to share the tailoring techniques I learned.
You are doing a marvellous job again on this skirt suit garment.
Enjoy the process that you already mentioned it is worth and makes sewing the final garment a "piece of cake" The preparation on front is worth and skips time with the actually sewing and finished result, which will be beautiful.
