Burda6573 in purple denim and DP Studio Le511 top in light grey sparkling jersey - As pantalonas do Cosido à Mão e um top em jersey brilhante

EN Summary: Last weekend's sewing projects were these wide-leg sailor-style trousers (one of the patterns sewn by the contestants f the Portuguese TV Show "Cosido à Mão", the equivalent to the "Great British Sewing Bee) and another Le511 top (see my first version, along with the construction notes here).

EN: Burda 6573 has been around for a while and there are numerous reviews on the web but somehow it went under my radar. When I saw it being made on TV (Instagram link showing the contestants versions here) I realized it would fit right into my wardrobe; as a plus it is the perfect pattern for Miss Fisher's style pants! Fur this first version I used purple denim from www.tecidos.com.pt.
---
EN: These high-waist trousers have an interesting partial waistband on the front (sides and back have waist facings), a back invisible zipper and forward side seams, which are very flattering on the figure.  Version A is full length with decorative buttons on the front-hips and version b is culotte length with in-seam pockets along the forward side-seams. The pattern includes a wide range of sizes, runs true to size and is very easy to fit and to sew. I made a mix of version A and B, keeping the full leg length but adding the in-seam pockets and consequently omitting the  second and third row of buttons.
---
EN: I also decided to add decorative top-stitching in light grey to match my buttons, aplied to the waist faced area. I didn't have top-stitching thread in light grey available so I improvised using the triple stitch (one of the utility stitches my Pfaff sewing machine does) and regular polyester thread. I don't know why but on my sewing machine this stitch isn't adjustable in length; it makes a 3mm stitch and that's it. I'd prefer the stitching to be a little longer though.
---
EN: I also top-stitched the vertical seams, the front waistband and the pocket opening:
---

EN: The top is my second version of Le511, one of the DP Studio's patterns featured in the January Modes&Travaux sewing magazine.
---
EN: This time I used a lightweight sparkling jersey and used my new Singer Heavy Duty 14HD854 serger/overlocker to sew a perfect two-thread narrow rolled hem on the flounces, with regular thread in the needle and woolly nylon in the lower looper (check it out in this Instagram video post).
---
EN: I think both garments turned out really well and look great together too. It won't be the last time I sew Burda6573, this one was just a warm-up; I plan on making a dark blue denim pantsuit with top-stitching details, and the jacket will be the Unique Jacket from Paco Peralta, that I've sewn before back in 2010 (check it out here, the construction of the jacket is thoroughly documented). Thank you all for reading!
---

Beautiful combo! I love using that triple stitch as well for topstitching. I can definitely change the length on my Pfaff.
