2012#2 – Baby sailor coat – Casaco de bebé marinheiro

Português
English (uncheck the other box and check this one)

Beijinhos e fiquem bem!

This baby coat is knitted in garter stitch and has a cross over front and a hood. The original model was published in Phildar 768 magazine (French edition), model 15:
(Photo: reproduction)

I customized it with sailor buttons and a coastguard embroidered appliqué:
This coat was entirely knitted in garter stitch using US 7 needles (4,5mm) and a Portuguese brand of yarn, Rosarios4 Bambino; I used three 3.5 oz skeins for this baby coat.

PS – Some of my friends/readers mentioned that I should remove the label from the orange coat. I’ll remove my labels from the baby coats that I’ve made (I’ve done that already for all the baby underwear and other clothes that I’ve bought, but since the knitted jackets/coats are outwear I thought it would be ok to keep the labels on. However, I better be safe than sorry and I’ll remove all the labels).

Thank you all for the well wishes and the cheering!

Ficou super giro!!!!

Podes sempre colocar a etiqueta á vista!

Hm, I've always thought Portugal was a warm country, but you seem to prepare for a winter baby. ;-)

But very pretty pieces.

Btw: If you want to keep the label move it to the side seam (or the locations where the side seam would be). There it can't irritate the babies skin.

nowaks nähkästchen: Thanks!! We do have cold weather where we live during fall and winter (usually not extreme, yet it can be humid and cold with lots of wind because we live by the ocean),... The baby will be born in the end of July/early August so it will still be warm. I've already bought light baby clothes for the first three months and now I'm knitting for size 3-6 months!

Gorgeous jacket! White is wonderful for a fresh new baby :)

You are totally right about the labels - I hadn't realized it was going to be a coat and not just a cardigan. I apologize for barging in! You're the mommy and YOU know best!

Tany, I have resorted to putting my labels on the outside of the garment as the high end makers of children's clothing do. Sometimes they are tucked into the edge of a pocket, on the back neck of a collar, or in a hem band, etc. You can get really creative here and I think it will add even more to your gorgeous clothes for your babe.

Oi, linda!

Both sweaters are perfect - lovely job! Don't worry about the labels too much, you will figure out what works best for your baby soon enough.

Rosa (CorteYgrif): Obrigada!! Beijinhos!
