English (uncheck the other box and check this one)

I know that many of you are dying to see details of the V1066 pants so I won’t keep you waiting! The pants instructions alone are worth the money spent on this pattern and I highly recommend them. The pants are beautiful and detailed on the outside but believe me, the inside is outstanding and very professional looking as well. The instructions are clear and easy to follow but some level of sewing experience is required (this is not a beginner pattern!). I’ll prove my point showing you the evidence.

The pockets are really fabulous; the pocket bags are cut of lining (less bulk) but they are faced with fashion fabric so the lining will never be visible from the outside. Next you can see both pocket bags (front and back pieces):

The edge of the pocket takes corded piping which was previously machine basted (before applying the front pocket bag); this piping is ready-made but it can also be made by using thin cord and bias strips. The purchased piping edge is on-grain so the piping also acts as seam stabilizer:

Also note the right fly-front facing which is bias bounded; this detail provides a high quality finishing inside. Next you can see it with the front pocket bag already sewn in place:

And here you have the completed pockets, with the back pocket bag/hip inset:

Note the fly-front opening and how clean and neat the wrong side of the pockets look; the bias bound seams make all the difference (you must use lightweight bias bound strips; you can also make them using lining fabric; Paco wrote a tutorial on this subject a while back - click here)!

The pocket has a small buttoned tab, also piped and topstitched; the button is not sewn in place yet (I’m still deciding if I’ll make buttonholes or if I use pressure snaps instead):

This is all for now; the sewing weekend is over and I won’t be able to finish up the pants until a few days from now, because my time is so short during the week. In the meanwhile, during the weekend I was able to finish another knitted project for the Vanilla and Chocolate collection, so stay tuned!

I think I am almost convinced to get this pattern too for the pants. They look so good in your colour scheme.

Thanks for the details Tany. I appreicate you taking the time to post these. I totally agree about the instructions. They are very reminiscent of the Vogue designer patterns of the 80's which I miss so much.

I'm still working on the fit with mine. Muslin #3 here I come.

Hi Tany, I just started reading your blog and its fantastic. I started sewing when I was young, but only recently got back into it. I realised how much I didnt know, but thatnks to blogs like yours and a lot of reading I feel like Its all achievable! I'm trying to make some clothes to wear when I start my new job next year. Currently I'm thinking about vogue 8543, but i'm not sure what interfacing to use! Anyway, thanks again, Laura

Thank you for the peek inside the pants. They are beautiful inside and out. I trimming is superb; a great complement to the fabric.

Tany said...

Hi Laura and welcome to Couture et Tricot!
About the interfacing: it will depend on many variables: the fabric, your personal taste and what you have available to work with; I would advise you to take a sample of the fashion fabric and go to a good notions shop where someone experienced can help you make the best choice. You may have to use more than one kind of interfacing for that suit; teh golden rule is to run some tests first and see how the fabric responds to different types of interfacing. Good luck!

Hi Tany, thanks for that. I think i'll do some test swatches like you said. There is a really good online english company selling qaulity fusibles and non fusibles so I might see if they can send me some samples. Love the vogue suit by the way!
