Recuperada (acho eu) e o modelo de prova do casaco de veludo - Fully recovered (I think) and the coat’s muslin

Obrigada Vanilda!

My very dear friends THANK YOU for your well wishes and support. This was a rough week, not being able to sew or drive, and still having tons of work to manage. Your words helped me going through all this. I feel recovered now, but I still have to take extra care with my neck so I don’t stress it much.
So without further ado, here is my muslin. It was ready in the beginning of the week, before my neck injury:

Ok, so what did I change? First the sleeve; you’ll notice that my left sleeve looks better than the right one; I thought that there was too much sleeve cap ease and also excess fabric on the front side of the cap so I made a 0.5cm deep fold perpendicular to the grain line and tapered the posterior side of the cap removing the extra fabric there.

The right sleeve cap (it doesn’t seem too wrong in this picture but it felt wrong with the coat on):

The left sleeve cap (after my alterations):

Another thing that I am considering is changing the pocket placement… But I’m not sure yet and I’ll give it some thought first:

As you see in the picture, the pocket opening is on the side seam… I think the pockets would “feel” better if placed on a seam further to the front… But this may alter the balance, because of the horizontal seam you see there:

I also pinched a little excess fabric on the CB, so I think I will add a CB seam too:

One of the things to be determined in the muslin stage is the roll line of the collar; this will be necessary when padstitching the undercollar:

Overall, I’m happy with the fit but I’m no fitting expert since I only sew to myself and never had to do major fitting alterations so I’m happy to get your input on this!

Finally, look what I got in the mail:

This came from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil! One of my dear Brazilian friends, Vanilda, was so kind to send me this pattern magazine! It’s great, and since its winter in Brazil now, I have a few fall/winter models to peruse! Thank you Vanilda!

Glad you're feeling better! You changes are good ones and you must do what you need to do to feel comfortable wearing the coat.

Your sleeve alterations are good ones. I learned this winter that just a tiny bit, even 1cm or less, taken out of the cap or armscye can make a big difference in how the sleeve fits.
Glad you're feeling better, Sweetie! Hang in there, healing takes too much time...!

Ainda bem que estás melhor e praticamente recuperada!!!

É bom ter-te de volta!

Os ajustamentos que fizeste parecem-me bem, principalmente a manga. A esquerda assenta-te melhor.

Thank you all! It feels great being able to sew again!

Ana Carina: Obrigada!

Beijinhos!

Glad to hear you're feeling better! I think your muslin looks great with the adjusted sleeve cap. I thought I saw some wrinkles in the chest area but those are probably from the extra ease. I just figured out with this coat project that when there's a lot of ease, I have a hard time judging the fit in muslin.

Tany, glad to hear the neck is mending. The muslin looks pretty good.

O molde parece-me muito bem.

Great catch on that sleeve. The slight adjustment you made made a great deal of difference in the overall look.
I'll go to TGCSA and leave this and more comments.
What an interesting magazine too - what is the name?

Tany said...

Marji: Thanks! The name is "Manequim", it means "manikin". It's written in Portuguese and features some really trendy and interesting models; Too bad they are not multisized like BWOF's or Patrones; instead each model is featured in a specific size which varies on a certain range from model to model. When I get home today I will scan a few pages for you :)
